and yeah half life 2 will be better but half life 2 isn't out yet
Get something like Norton System Works or TuneUp Utilities. That can maybe fix ur problem.

this is the only thing left (that i can think of) that could cause the problem..
i have tried removing the ID folder from the regestry, didn't work. I also tried renaming it i.e. PROGRA~1 to Program files, etc.. still didn't work.
I see no "invalid characters" there so what on earth is the problem?
