Either way, Artest seemed to do alot of backing away from Ben Wallace, but jumps up into the stands over a cup ? Hope he doesn't win the appeal of his suspension, and hope everyone enjoys his "record" when its released. He needs the income

Busyman, if Wallace did react a bit more controlled in the 1st place nothing of this all would have been happened at all. At least as i see it, the charge from Artest wasn't that hard
    Everyone involved should be suspended.

    My point is Artest/Wallace is A. Artest,Pacers/Fans is B.

Artest/Wallace should be treated like the other skirmishes in the NBA with Wallace getting the total fault for A.

The fans come in and here comes B, which are some of the fans fault and some of the Pacers.

The going into the stands thing though....

Had he gone after the guy who actually hit him with the cup, it still would not be excusable, but at least more understandable. Beating on an innocent guy was despicable. Everything after that is a result of what happens when you have no security.

American sports fans have joined the rest of the world in terms of loutishness. Used to be people would taunt, but now because of the extrememly high prices for tickets it seems certain types of fans think that entitles them to act however they want. This goes on in all 4 major sports in the US, but the NBA is the only one where fans sit literally right next to the teams. If you want to be the "Biggest team sport on the planet" as the NBA does, and want to make all that money off of fans, then pay for the security.

Another thing about American sports: Owners pocket a lot of revenue but don't put money into important areas, such as security, untill something like this happens.

I actually feel bad for Ron Artest, obviously a talented but troubled human. It must have been hard to lie down after getting a shot like that to the face from Wallace, but somewhere in those millions he makes a year there HAS to be that part that says "I will not go into the stands".

I fully blame the fans culture for this, thinking it is okay to get involved in what happens on the court. But our athletes for all they make come off as spoiled.

Gimme 8 million a year and you can douse me with beer every day.

I also think Wallace should take a bit more responsibility for this whole thing, but he is a world champion, why should he?

I do not feel bad for Ron Artest. People fuck with people whom they feel they can beat.
Wallace would have been time enough for Ronnie Ron and that's why he backed down. It was the prospect of that impending ass-whippin.

This is not the first Big Brawl in our sports history so haven't joined anything as far as the rest of the world.
This is not the first time an NBA player has jumped into the stands to whip ass.
This not the first time fans have tried to whip a player's ass.

I agree that lack of security played a part in the overall length of the incident. Hell, minutes after the initial "jump" into the stands there were still cans of Ass-Whippin' being handed out.

I guess when I say "feel bad" I should clarify:

Ron is from NY so I been reading about him since high school and St. John's and I fully know why the Knicks didn't take a chance on him, though ironically enough they now might, even though their original reason for not drafting him was because of his psychological make up (somebody explain this too me, really, it's almost laughable if this really happens).

Ron Artest has needed real help and not the enabling type the NBA has. And as players, I love Ben Wallace. Ass whupping or not though, the way I saw things he was out of line, and you should actually see the game footage, because just before that foul, Wallace had fouled Artest just as hard.

But that is just basketball, and really I can see why Wallace would set an example. Detroit has always been most successful when it had enforcers, and Wallace plays a clean game and is not the one who ended up in the stands beating on some random innocent guy (who could have been you or me).

Ricky Williams will play again, Ron Artest will get traded and play again, but considering the money these leagues make, it seems more should be put into how to deal with people who have issues.

Wallace was out of line, agreed, but he didn't insight a riot. That's the fans and Pacers fault.

Wallace wouldn't have been pelted anyway. They weren't in Indiana.
Ron is a sociapath. If he does this on camera imagine what he does behind closed doors when he's pissed off....not unless it's the attention that's a catalyst.

Just read in the paper that Ron Artest has been banned for 73 games, Jermaine O'Neal for 30 and Stephen Jackson for 25 games.

They reckon thats about £6.5 million in lost wages between them

Thats Sterns way of saying " nice boys don't go into the stands"

I hope the suspensions are not over-turned in the appeals, this needs to be a wakeup call that this should never happen again. I do hope however, that the fans who threw cups at the players are fined/ prosecuted as well. Just because the players make millions shouldn't mean they take full reponsibility

Agreed. The fans' role in this has been overshadowed by the players when they in fact were the main catalyst of the whole thing.

god this is hilarious, overpaid stars attacking each other, then the fans, then the fans attacking back.

I have no idea why that fella decided to jump into the stands with a few of his team mates and start hitting fans. it would have been the securities job to look back on the cctv and see who threw the beer and have him escorted out/arrested/banned for life.

its not the lack of security as other people have suggested it is the fact the players attacked the fans. how do you expect them to deal with that? run in protect the players and get beaten up. run in drag the players out and get beaten up. run in and protect the fans from the players and get beaten up.

these people deserved to be suspended without pay to teach them some self control. the fan/idiot who threw the beer should be charged with assault and banned for life from any basketball game.

I agree with your post. However, lack of security did prolong The Brawl.

I saw on the news this morning an interview with the guy who threw the first cup. ( The guy in the blue shirt and white hat ) He was a season ticket holder, and has been barred from going to the games at The Palace Their asking for help to find out the name of the guy who threw the chair too
