Is DivX the same as Xvid?
My DVD player plays DivX files and just wondered if it'll play Xvid too, or is it the same format and I'm being dumb?![]()

at most, you just may have to change the FourCC..
DivX and XviD are very similar. Both are an implementation of MPEG-4. However, the MPEG-4 specification has lots of different 'profiles' with all kinds of advanced features.
A player that supports DivX, usually supports MPEG-4 in general, so also XviD. But most players only support a few (or none) advanced features of the MPEG-4 specs.
The newest GSpot can tell you which adv. feat. a movie uses. For example: BVOP, QPEL, etc.
