OK just cos it is the topic title i will put a few ways i speed up xp

    1) I turned off any unnecessary services
    2) I do regular defrags (its amazing how much better ur system runs) - defrag even if the defragger says u dont have to.
    3) I removed all the themes and what not from my xp (it now looks like Win2k )
    4) I turned down the icon pixels count basically i dont want a good looking desktop just a fast and efficient computer.
    4) Have no background
    5) Do not allow MSN messenger to run in the background when not needed it uses a couplr of MB of ram just sitting there not logged in

there are several more but i cant remember them all - i have spent quite a while optimising my XP

Right on people......take my advice.......currently have 1.048gb ram on board...needed more ...only 160 total gb hd..15gb left ......needed more......GF A250 128DDR MB.....n the most important thing I need one more CPU for the empty slot to boost everything up.....This is not the best configured system of course......but It's a freaking speedy machine for my budget....I use to tweak my old comp often, very often...but the outcome never came close to this one...I'm not trying to show off my thing here or ne thing.....Just give up 1K and u'll get a kick ass comp'.....save time on the tweaking and defrag things on the old one...which now I've never done since I've got this new comp'...because there's no need to... ..N...if u use Kazaa alot like I do.....it will prevent all those laggy things from happening...We always should update ourselves..... ...N last like ----TPC-----said get a faster connection will definitely help...

Nightsky , It's better to hav an old ( P2 , AMD k-6 ) with MASSIVE HD SPACE ( all you want ) and that connected to your network to store everything , and have a fast PC with a fast 20 to 60 GB HD , lot's better that a big hd ( which is slower )

cos XP came with my puter and i thought all those graphical enhancements were great at first but one day i decide to turn some of them off and i noticed a speed increase and as they say the rest is history
