I heard that even with dual 8800gtx's and a quad core the game still wont run smoothly at the highest settings. I'd wait to buy new hardware

for rizzeal, yeoj. I have 8800gtx and it's pretty laggy at times. I have 4gb of ram too (cpu doesn't matter with this game i have heard).
oh, almost forgot, i run it on all-high, maxed rez, 4x AA fine. FPS never drops below 20 (well, in between map-loads/saves, it does)

CPU always matters ,no matter the game. Especially in this game since the CPU is responsible for the large exterior areas. Besides that, a slow CPU downgrades the GPU performance. Otherwise on the online benchmarks you would see 2x8800 running on sempron 3000

15-30 fps on medium with x2 4200+, 2GB DDR400, 7900GTX and vista x86. Not worth playing on this rig.

I have a x2 5000, 3 gigs of ram, ati 9000gt, it runs ok at first doesn't lag but the graphics isn't all that great its not worth playing right now, but call of duty dose look great on my pc with graphics at full blast, i gotta up grade my pc graphics card and cpu, can't wait for the phenom
