how do i get media to accept these files??
how do i get media to accept these files??
Tried the K-Lite codec pack?
PLEASE DO NOT GET THE LATEST VERSION OF WMP OR CONTINUE TO USE WMP9
once you get wmp9, you can't get rid of it PLUS it has DRM
what the hell is drm you ask
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/drm.aspx
ohh well I'll just un-install it if its so bad
you can't, there is no un-install of wmp9
http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104-957704.html
from the link:
Windows Me and XP users must rely on a feature called "System Restore" to roll back their Windows installation to a time before they installed Media Player 9 Series if the want to uninstall it. The clunky alternative doesn't really remove all Windows Media Player 9 Series files and could potentially wipe out other system changes
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I think it contributes to all the fakes, person has it, players it with wmp9. rewrites the header, shares it, someone else players it, not the header for that machine, makes it corrupt
conclusion:
please don't use this If you have it, and pleases don't get it if you don't
just use winamp or anything else
isnt wmp included with xp?
You Better Keep In Mind That I Can Read Between The Lines
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to there level and beat you with experience!!
DRM shouldn't be a problem for any of us, cause we aren't downloading "protected" mp3 files. Regardless, once you make the upgrade to WindowsXP, they can use the same technology for ANY file.Originally posted by muchspl2@27 October 2003 - 17:48

There is no truth to the 'rumor' that WMP rewrites the header of any file. If this were true, then a file played in WMP should play differently when in another player, and it does not.

wmp8 is, you have to get the "updated version" with a windows update, it tricky, just make sure you un-tick it and it won't install itOriginally posted by Benno@28 October 2003 - 00:15

@the disbelievers
why chance it, I say fuck wmp9, don't use it
EDIT:
its also ilegal to turn off the "updater" built in to wmp9
and no option not to use it
Yes it is, but not version 9.Originally posted by Benno@27 October 2003 - 23:15

The DRM isn't what bothers me the most. The fact that you simply CAN'T UNINSTALL that piece of crap is what pisses me off! There is no f*#Ģing choice!
With all due respect, I consider myself a power user when it comes to mp3s/WMP9 for XP. The newest WMP is fantastic. It even burns on the fly without any other separate burning program.
On a side note, regarding the DRM thing, this isn't new. It has been implemented in WMP since version 7.
Why do people keep complaining about uninstalling this program? From time to time I load software that I don't like. When this happens, I just don't use it. Why is everyone so concerned with 'uninstalling' something? Just leave it there, its not hurting anything.

I'm not going to arguer with you, you keep telling people to use it, Ill keep telling them all the bad things it has/will do to your mp3's
the fact that you use it for burning makes me think even less of your argument though
grow up and use software that doesn't scan/rewrite or report your use to big brother
