will it shorten burner life?
I've always played CDs in my cd burners, and every burner I've got still works, even though, right now the majority of them are laying in a pile in the corner of the room.
So I don't think it will shorten their life spans.

Of course not, there's the wear and tear of the CD if you play often.
yeh everytime you use a cd it gets damamged. your drive also does (but everything does when its used!

Not only CD, but optical lens, motor, gears and belts.
the wear and tear (to the cd or the cd reader/writer) is so unbelievably small, its not worth thinking about. Don't worry about it.
