Once I go onto Windows Update and start searching for updates, it freezes, and I have to close it with Ctrl+Alt+Del then End Now.

The version that doesn't work is legal.

Try waiting for a LOOONNGGG time, that happened to me once.. i think i just waited for a long time and it worked.. -.-

No one EVER looks through the help topics at WU. Have you tried that? It helped me with my problem.

the updates can take ages, and if you start try to do stuff while it searches for updates it can crash... be patient
