i have no problem tracking down the major fake file distributors (not the poor shmuck that has some fake files) and submitting the ranges to the peerguardian database- it works for me when i'm looking for new music- you just need to cancel the dl once pg starts rejecting the connection or the blocked connections will continue forever
so there already is a system in place to to track them and it works
nothing wrong with more ppl getting involved

yeah psi, cogent ,nhi networks etc are known fake file hosts in addition to the known fake files companies overpeer, mediadefender etc- the kicker is that we can't always submit the huge whois ranges to the pg db coz a lot of ppl import the ips into their firewalls instead of using the pg prog or k++ blocker (and those companies are involved in web site hosting so it messes with web browsing)
These are the ips for the fake MP3 files I got in a short DAT test. I searched for a couple commonly faked MP3s and used K-Dat to read their ip sources. A longer search using better methods woud yield a probably more precise range.

yeah i think i got similar results when i tested it
here are the current ranges in the pg db for psi 38.xx etc (the 2nd one i submitted a ways back)
Performance Systems International (Hash-Exploiter On KaZaA) fake files:38.118.1.1-38.118.255.255
fake file company (host is psi.net):38.119.0.0-38.119.64.161
i'm gonna go on a tear later and see what other ranges are being used that aren't in the pg db- on some newer music releases etc

i've got two new test ranges for fake files (test ranges coz they're big and need to narrow them down: 4095 and 8191 ips respectively)
test fake files:216.144.224.0-216.144.239.255
test fake file: 66.117.0.0-66.117.31.255
and i got a hit from a psi ip that's not currently covered by the pg db 38.144.197.87 so i need to do more work there
this is the kinda stuff i'm doin over at the pg forum- so i won't always post it here but it ends up in the pg db

Can someone make sure they send Paul in admin a list of these new I.P's sharing Faked files so they can be added to the K-Lite Bad IP list.

those test ranges i posted earlier shouldn't go in they're too big- we have more accurate ranges for those and others as well over at the pg forum...
i'm pretty sure paul goes by the pg db list -not sure how often it's updated though- i've suggested that they stick with the pg db list (just the pg db list since it's constantly being edited) to make life a little easier but not sure that got heard
the other problem is that the pg db isn't up full time but we have a daily list posted as a sticky in the db discussion forum secton (pg forum)
later,
