    Who said OpenOffice?

AbiWord is the fastest word processor I've ever seen, with all the characteristics or features needed in one, minus all the shiny Microspyware. Just check out the following site to try out this open-source material I'm talking about on your Windoze system, if that is your case and you're curious: www.opensourcewindows.org

I don't think we can label Linux a substandard OS and say Windows has professional apps for it. If by that you mean applications that require you to spend a very large amount of money to use them, then you would be correct. There is nothing substandard about Ubuntu. Personally I find it very easy to use. (Obviously it will take some getting used to, if you've been on Windows all your life, but that would be the same with any change of OS). The proof of Ubuntu's greatness is visible in the fact that Apple basically copied it for it's newest OSX, and that Windows Vista is already using many features it has. I'm sure this new Windows 7 will be even more plagiarizing.

Have you actually tried Ubuntu JP or are you here just to make an appearance. Hardware support is not an issue with it - in fact, it downloaded all the drivers for my hardware for me, without forcing me to install anything.

Also, I forgot to mention 98% of all spyware is written for Windows, as are viruses, thus using Linux means absolutely no headaches on that front.

If only games were made for it, I would be done with Microshaft forever.

i've used linux on and off for awhile now and always seem to drift back to microbawls, its a pain in the arse having to install a dependency just to be able to scratch your nuts.

having said that, im running some custom ubuntu/dell distro on my netbook and it pretty much rawks, takes lyke 20 seconds to boot, get on the net and watch pr0n.

Finally took JPs advice and got myself a wee notebook as SGG is hardly ever off the PC. Vista is a bit pants - I preferred XP. I can't find anything - the whole set up is counter intuitive. The programmers are twunts.

Edit: and the wee mouse pad thing gives me hand cramps ...and that without pron.

I agree that the (apparent) goal of Vista engineers was to hide most of the settings and scatter them about willy-nilly.
Windows 7 has resolved all that and makes XP look as dated as it really is.
You should try it, I'd bet you'd like it.

    Yeah buddy...that precious memory.
Back when RAM cost a king's ransom, memory use was a big deal...today, not so much.
You can get 8GB of RAM for under a $100 today, you should live a little and splurge.

Just yesterday I reinstalled Win7 on a RAID array.
The whole process took about 20 minutes (which is faster than Ubuntu) and the only driver I needed to install myself was the Creative sound card.
The same card I could never get to work in Ubuntu.

Never could figure out how to install Ubuntu on a RAID setup either.
I'm sure there is some arcane series of command lines and other magic that will do it but Jeebus, Windows saw the array, loaded the driver and carried on with no input from me at all.
You've really got to hate an OS that does that, don't you?
