Listen, I posted this earlier on.

They didn't pay $9 for the room.


They each paid $8.33 (Which is $25 - the cost of the room - divided by three) for the room.

Then they each paid the bellboy a $0.67 tip, taking their expenditure to $9 each.


$27 paid in total. The hotel gets $25, the bellboy gets $2.


Simple.
