Its just a beta. Red hat has betas all the time.
I think the projected standard new release of red hat versions are about every 5 to 7 months or something. Except for red hat linux advanced server, it releases new versions like every other year or so.
So something should be coming out soon since red hat 9 (shrike) was released some time ago.
I have just recently switched to slackware after having ran red hat linux advanced server 2.1 for years. I just got tired of it and needed to focus on a different distribution since I know red hat so well.

how are you finding slack then?
i keep getting loads of errors just trying to install it. though that was 9 the new one hopefully is much easier.

that is mandrake 9.2, never really liked mandrake.
