I have two pc's - a COMPAQ 733 Celeron, which i leave on for about 10 hours a day, never tried 24 hours because i'm concerned the power adaptor on my cable modem will explode , because it gets quite hot. The Pc on the other hand doesnt even get warm and hardly makes any noise.

I would never leave my Athlon XP system on all day, partly because of the noise of the fan  , and partly because i have important business stuff on it, so need it to be reliable and so don't over-use it.

distributed software to perform complex mathematical operations using your spare CPU time.

main ones are:
SETI (search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)
&
the folding thing (something about protiens)

Why would anybody want to do this? It doesn't make much sense to me to use my CPu to run this.
