    Try a new set of IDE cables.I had one go bad on me before and I couldn't get anywhere with more than one thing plugged into each IDE.If I unplugged my second harddrive and my spare cdrom everything went fine.
    Gigabyte GA7-VT600 P-L
    Athlon XP2500+ @ 3200+
    512mb OCZ DDR333 (2,3,3,7)
    Samsung SP8004h 80gig harddrive
    Radeon 9200 128 mb
    LG cdrw/dvd drive

    I changed the PSU and it was causing the problem (as expected)
