If I'm not mistaken some plastic can melt with cumlative temps that wouldn't melt them on short term contact. In other words some plastic melts at a much lower temp after degrading it's orginal properties.

Ok, I'm building an AMD64 based rig for my self right now,
and here are some pics how I de-coupled my drives myself.
I dremel-ed out the grills for the front and rear fans,
removed the drive-cage for the 3.5" drives,
mounted vertically 4 pairs of elastic cord,
clamped the drives on the cords with washers.

There still is room for a 4th drive.
Drives will be cooled by a 1000 rpm (max) 120mm fan.
