It is a parental duty to inflict unusual nicknames on our children. My daughter is still called Woozle (a la Winnie the Pooh). She just sighs.
We called our son Murgatroyd when he was a bump and he was Murgy for several years after.
Strangely he doesn't see the funny side either.

Well, only the front two are mine... Then ther's the foster-parents, the foster-foster parents, the foster-foster-foster-parents, the foster-foster-foster-foster-parents, the foster-foster-foster-foster-foster-parents and so on...
edit: forgot a foster somewhere!
my brother's name is Andrew, but he was called "Andrew son" by my mum for ages, then he thought it was his real name and wouldnt answer people unless they called him Andrew son
