    The slot you have marked at the very bottom is a modem riser slot.
    The slot you have marked higher up is a PCI slot.
    I don't know what that other thing is that you've put a box around. My first thought was that its a piezo speaker but there's too many wires for that. Anyone know?
    There isn't a bargepole long enough for me to work on [a Sony Viao] - clocker 2008

    LOL yeah, after looking closer I can see the wires just go over and past it (on Their way to front USB sockets).

    The idea was to have a very cheap modem or network card with all the work actually done by the CPU via a software codec.

    I've never actually seen one. Another defunct idea by Intel.
