Some movies that i have d/led have atleast one part screwed up. Is that common when you d/l movies?

yes it is if you havnt got the right codec try vidlan or zoom player with sld codec

if i see a picture screwed up like having many colorful squares in it... does that mean i dont have the right codec?

Usually results from bad xvid decode. The site the guy above me listed has individual codecs to download it looks like. You should just unistall any full/partial codec packs or extra codecs you have installed, then go HERE and get the KL Codec Pack. Everything you need.

usually after a movie has been downloaded it has at least one corrupted bit in it
the options are:
1. try videoLAN this software player will sometimes play over the bad bits
2. chop the bad bit(s) out using appropriate software
3. use a program like KCF (kazaa corruption fixer) to redownload the faulty bit(s)
option 3 may look a bit daunting, but once you get the hang of it it only takes a few minutes and you end up with a perfect copy which is good for sharing on the network

No mate if you see any pic ,you have the codec.But you could install the k/l codec pack to play other formats you may download.The redish blocks it exactly what andrewbarkers saying.No3 is the best option especially if to convert to vcd with it.
