On the subject of turn-based games Advance Wars also ranks right up there. Like the old war boardgames they used to have (think Games Workshop nowadays) only with the computer to keep track of all the rules. Good stuff, I think I played Advance Wars until the cartridge burned out...
Back to the turn-based combat RPG's other classics have to be Bard's Tale, Phantasy Star, Breath of Fire, and Wasteland (forerunner to the equally great Fallout).

what's the difference between 7 and 8? 8 uses a more complicated battle system right?
i'm probably going to play 7 since so many additional things have been made for it (dirge, advent children, etc)

not really ciomplicated just a pain in the ass having to stand there and draw 100 fires for 2 hrs
and the weapons also pissed me off you spend 20 hrs on the map trying to find the stuff you need to upgrade your weapons you can make disk 4 easy with the weapon you started with!!
leveling up is usess because the eniemes level weill also be the same as yours so you waste hrs leveling up with no reward
7 is the best
