I trade FTP accounts with people that I meet on IRC. I have FTP access to some top-sites where the rips are posted too when ripped, so I usually get stuff pretty quick.

Well, yes, I guess I am lucky. However, I've met people online by chatting, asking questions, and being helpful whenever possible. This type of action is appreciated on IRC and makes for a great community. On SS, Klite, or any other filesharing program, there is no distribution level. So when new stuff gets ripped, it eventually trickles down to the end users. On IRC, its done differently. There are level of distribution for new stuff. You need to be able to offer the channel something, and they reward you. Believe it or not, I don't work for a record store, radio station, or anything else. Some people provide pre-release CDs, others provide monotary donations to help pay for server costs, etc. Most users have only their bandwidth to provide and this will usually get you access to private FTP/dump sites after less than a week of sharing files. Basically, your contributions are rewarded by access to fast servers, and good quality rips.Originally posted by mogadishu@13 September 2003 - 14:32
