its a songwriters award...
it goes to the person or people who wrote the song

The only reason why I watched part of the show was in case somebody ripped their clothes off. But here's a perfect example of why I don't give a shit about the actual awards...
Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal
(For duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)
Disorder In The House
Warren Zevon & Bruce Springsteen
Track from: The Wind
[Artemis Records]
Of the five nominees, that was the only song I honestly never even heard before. And based on the clip they played, I can see why. It sounded awful. My vote would have gone to Foo Fighters - Times Like These, but all the other songs were much better than this crap. Why did it win? Because he died. That just proves the award means absolutely nothing.
A few noteworthy awards:
-Record of the Year: "Clocks," Coldplay.
-New Artist: Evanescence.
-Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal: "Disorder in the House," Warren Zevon and Bruce Springsteen.
-Female Country Vocal Performance: "Keep on the Sunny Side," June Carter Cash.
-Pop instrumental performance: "Marwa Blues," George Harrison.
That's about it, IMO.

Did George Harrison die in the past year, or was it before that? I didn't see his picture in the death tribute.
George lost his battle with cancer on November 30 2001.
