Looks like a sequel to me. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is its name.

The only reason they put "Willy Wonka" instead of "Charlie" at the start of the original's title is that Charlie was slang for the Vietnamese at the time.

And the new one does look pretty good in a really weird sort of way.

Yep - the name of the book that it's based on is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". They simply kept the original name for this version. It was the other movie that was retitled.

The original movie is a classic, Depp should do well as Willy Wonka, the man seems to be able to play all sorts of strange and unusual characters with incredible style.
