The only thing that stands up to this is an FX5950U from nVidia. These two cards are about on par with eachother.

I'd go for a RAM an processor upgrade first. A 2500+ Barton and 512 mb of higher speed RAM should do you great
You may need a new motherboard also...

Is there any way to tell what mobo I have without going inside my computer?
Is this a good processor?

If you don't really want to overclock, and have the money, go for the 3000+. If you don't have the money, and will overclock, go for the 2500+.
Get some nice RAM also (PC3200 or something) and an nForce 2 based motherboard and you're off.
Search google for AIDA32. That program will show you your motherboard etc.

It's a great card, however, it is not an wise choice--you could instead buy a 9800 Pro-retail--for $235 (almost half the price)--and get 2-3 less frames per second less than the 9800 XT:
Sapphire RADEON 9800 PRO ATLANTIS 128MB DDR AGP8X TVO/DVI (Retail) Free Ground Shipping!! $235.00
