hi all,
slight problem was wondering if anyone can help me with it... just recently noticed a sneaky little program called wmpupdate.exe running in the background, which i can only see in task manager...it seems to be auto connecting to the net soon as i turn the computer on...which is ok cause it saves me doing it, but since i noticed it the computer is running slower, and i'd like to be able to close the program and find out what it is... sounds like windows media player update, but i've run that separately with no help..... HELP!!! it just won't go away!!
dave.

Open control panel.
(if using XPstyle control panel, click on performance and maintenance.)
Click on System.
Then click on the automatic updates tab and select Turn off automatic updating. If Service Pack 1 is installed uncheck Keep my computer up to date.
Click Ok.
Also look at other Services you can stop from running-this site looks like hell but its safe - http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

neither options selected anyway,
Sounds very strange....
Check if you have it, or anything elseweird listed in your startup programs
(not startup in task menu bar)

start>run>msconfig>startup tab> check for wmpupdate.exe on this list, if its not there,
try: start>run>services.msc>look for windows media update or windows update on this list.

EDIT - just d/l a program very similar to norton systemworks 2004...go to activate it but something keeps shutting down the program!! what the hells goin on?
