Do I need to have both of these codecs installed on my pc to view recent movies?

If you only download scene releases you only need xvid. 99.9999% of all scene releases (since 2004) are xvid

download klite standard/mega codec pack :)

I had only DivX Pro 6.0 and XviD 1.0.3 codecs installe and most of films works just fine. There is no need to downloading any codec packs.
