To enable kazaadebug.log create the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KaZaA\D as a DWORD and set the value to 303 (Hexadecimal). Start Kazaa and read kazaadebug.log, possibly in your Kazaa folder, or C: or wherever it may be. Have fun...

It only took a couple seconds to figure it out once I had disassembled Kazaa. I already suspected that the "D" reg key enabled kazaadebug.log and I had previously tried setting the value to "1", but of course Sharman Networks is a little smarter than that and chose the value 303h instead.

And I'll crack Kazaa, yes, but maybe I'll try to find out more about the FastTrack protocol before I try any big cracks. Here are some possible cracks, add more if you have any suggestions:

* Remove loading of CD_clint.dll and other ad/spyware DLLs
* Remove "kmdb.html" generation
* Remove all ads from Kazaa
* More than 8 sources
* Remove detection of cheater or create a cheater myself
* Find PL algorithm

Random Nut, i got a question. One can see that Kazaa process uses only 9 threads, but how do they manage multiple downloads with only a few threads? I thought that each download/upload is a separate thread. How else can it operate simultaneously with other transactions?

I don't know but my guess is that there are a couple of such threads each getting instructions from a queue on what to do and does it and then get the next instruction from the queue.

I tested this on Kazaa 2.0.2 so if you put the "D" reg key in the right place and it doesn't work then they may have changed the value. Try Kazaa 2.0.2 and it will work.

I would like to find a solution to auto-update popups problem. If you can block this kind of popup, either with registry or anything, I will use Kazaa Lite 2.0.0 combined with cheater, and hence no PL crack is required.

If they use 3 bits to store the number of sources in some tricky bit-field, then there is no chance to change it without just rewriting the whole program. But I will be real surprised if anybody still uses bitfields in programs like this.

That you download a lot of stuff?

There are IP numbers in that log file, but they're in hex and byte-swapped, like abcdef12:1234 (byteswappedip:port). That's why I removed mine.
