I've already posted this reply in FastTrack in that topic there, so I'm sort of repeating myself. (And I'll bet that this list won't match that one, but hey, things change...minute by minute.)

First of all I have to distinguish between movies that I really like deep down gut and the movies that I think are really important because of their creativity and contribution to the art form:

One: My personal faves: (as of this moment)

1: Blade Runner (Original release!)
2: The Magnificent Seven
3: High Fidelity
4: Duck Soup
5: Seven Samurai
6: Treasure of the Sierra Madre
7: Shakespeare In Love
8: Aliens (Directors Cut)
9: To Kill A Mockingbird
10:Unforgiven

And the critically evaluated list:

1: Citizen Kane (Still the greatest movie ever made)
2: Seven Samurai
3: Casablanca
4: Treasure of the Sierra Madre
5: Schindler's List
6: 2001: A Space Odyssey (recently a friend reminded me of this movie; I had forgotten.
7: Jules and Jim
8: Duck Soup
9: Das Boot (english subtitled director's cut)
10: Apocalypse Now Redux

Man, there a bunch of others, in both categories: The Godfather films, though they don't make my top ten, The Road Warrior, Young Frankenstein, Pulp Fiction...the list could go on and on. I LOVE MOVIES!

Leaving Las Vegas is my favorite. Elizabeth Shue pouring liquor down her breasts, you don't get better than that. :D
Oh, and the rest of the movie was good too  If you like that kind of thing.

I forgot, I also like anything David Lean did. No breasts but still good

Its great to see someone else that prefers the original version of Blade Runner to the directors cut. The film-noir voice-over worked really well in my opinion, even if it was only added to try to explain the story.

MonkeyC MonkeyD please register and contribute! You are so right about the Blade Runner orig. release and right on in your analysis!

Also the end sequence to Blade Runner was incredibly moving, even though I heard that it came from an outtake from The Shining...

And Infested Cats: with a list like that, who needs our puny recommendations?

But remember that that's the AFI's list of the greatest American films, so you won't see the Seventh Seal or Fellini's Satyricon, or Truffaut's The Wild Child, or the Soviet films Cranes Are Flying or Ballad of A Soldier. Or Brazil or Time Bandits or Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

And some of those films are absolute crap! Dr. Zhivago? please. Gone With The Wind? OK, a huge production, but...aakh. Ben Hur? Charlton Heston as God again. (vomits profusely into wastebasket)

But it was good to be reminded of that bunch of others, Annie Hall, The Wild Bunch, Dances With Wolves...jeez I'm glad to have that list again, had hard copy but lost it...

+ Funky Capricorn: Charlotte's Web? I would never have suspected.

El Jefe: Figgis' Leaving Las Vegas is a brilliant movie, but how dark! (and I had entirely forgotten about Elizabeth Shue in our other topic about women)

Sorry for blurting all over this topic but I really like tallking about movies...

FC - it's so awesome to see you like Pee Wee's Big Adventure!! I own it on DVD. Along with Both Bill & Ted movies (which, surprisingly, were both box office hits) :D
I also own Transformers: The Movie, when it was originally released on VHS for the first time... oh, the magnificence of it...

The thing that dissapoints me the most about AFI's list, is the inclusion of Rocky... i just cant stand any of the rocky movies.
And what saddens me is that King Kong beat out Clockwork Orange!? Or how Fantasia beat Forest Gump? I dont get it...

Infested Cats -- you have to remember that AFI's board consists of producers, actors, and whatever fat cats they have to consider among their membership -- just like the American Academy Awards. So they may have axes to grind and may not be as dispassionate as you or I.

And yes, at least one Tim Burton film deserves entry in the top one hundred. For me? The Nightmare Before Christmas, though BeetleJuice might earn honorable mention. (But jeez, I forgot Edward Scissorhands!) (But Rocky, the first one was a great film)

Our lists are better than theirs are.

You are going to have to explain to us just who 'Dottie' is.

2) Discovery of Heaven
3) Planet of the apes (original 1st movie)
4) Belle du Jour
5) Braveheart
6) Enemy Mine
7) Novecento
8) The Matrix
9) Once Upon A time in the west
10) Mask of zorro

If i write this down tomorrow can think of 10 different names. Love movies. All kind of genres. Even like to see complete flops.... They make the real good ones even more beautifull. Once had over 1500 movies on vhs. recently all gave them away. DVD is such a great invention for moviewatching. Collecting the real good movies on DVD now. Anyone knows if `once upon a time in the west` has been released on DVD already.

A great French movie is "Amelie". I loved it.
"The Royal Tenebaums" is fun
so is "Snatch"

and being a fan of Tolkien, i love the Lord of the Rings trilogy (even though only 1 has been released, the 2nd very very soon).

I am a Tolkien fan too, but I didn't like the films that much. There is a lot of the story that is being lost and unfortunately they 'forgot' The Hobbit, so that there are also a lot of things that people can impossibly understand (Gollum, Bilbo,...)

The love affair between Arwen and Aratorn is taken a bit out of its context, because in the first book, it is only a small part of the story (it is only mentioned in the indexes, not in the story itself!) <_<

I love the books though!!!

Infested Cats, I'm a big movie fan.

Pulp Fiction is one of my top fav's too.

Quote's; To the best of my ability:

"I want fresh blueberry pankakes."

"Is Marcellus Wallace a bitch?" "What?" "Say WHAT one more time."

"That's a tasty burger, can I have some sprite to wash down this Kahunna Burger?"

"I'm gunna get midevil on his ass."

The all-time best, "Do I have a sign outside that says Dead Nig*er Storage. No, because storing dead nig*ers ain't my f*ckin business."

Clockwork Orange freaked me out a bit, but clearly you love it with your avantar. Rent "Trees Lounge". Great movie, also "Four Rooms" rocks.

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Trees Lounge
3. Goodfellas
4. Casino
5. Fargo "Oh Margie, I missed you so much. Then, I saw you on the TV. Yaaah."
6. Detroit Rock City
7. Christmas Vacation
8. Quick Change
9. Mad City
10.Minority Report

The list is endless.

One new good one is "Scottland, PA". If you haven't seen it, rent it. Good sh*t

You can find the animated Hobbit on Kazaa, I no longer share the file, but it is out there.

My favorite movies are hard to choose, I like so many, but here is a list (I am sure I will leave several off that will make mad later on). They are in no particular order.

1) Aliens (best monster movie of all times)
2) Forrest Gump
3) Vision Quest(makes me want to take up jogging and working out again, everytime I watch it)
4) Red Dawn(great 80's cold war flick)
5) True Lies(totally unbeleivable, but very entertaining, specially Jamie's dance scene)
6) The Breakfast Club(obvious reasons, great through and through)
7) Running Scared(great action comedy)
8) Reservoir Dogs(Blood and Guts action)
9) Predator (Arnold vs Alien, very cool)
10) Innocent Blood(Vampire Mafia Bloody Action Comedy)
11) 2 Days in the Valley(great intertwined stories, lots of thinking to do during this movie)
12) Groundhog Day(I can watch this movie over and over and over  )
13) Titanic (almost too long, but love the storyline and special effects)
14) True Romance(bloody, edgey and full of action)
15) Night Shift(80's comedy, makes me laugh something fierce)
16) Late for Dinner(great movie about 2 brothers frozen for 30 years)
17) Plains, Trains and Automobiles(spectacular comedy)
18) Quigley Down Under(My favorite Tom Selleck Movie for sure)
19) Spider-Man(2002 Version, very cool 21st century version)
20) Starship Troopers(so stupid and cool at the same time, great gore and laughs)
21) Terminator (excellence in Thrills)
22) Terminator 2(one of the best sequels ever)
23) The Boondock Saints(great flick)
24) The Hitcher(80's Thriller)
25) The Professional(LEON) (great hitman movie)
26) The Secret of My Success(great comedy)

28) There's Something About Mary(great raw comedy, would be better if it were not for the stupid singers popping up once in a while)
29) When Harry Met Sally(great couples movie)
30) Fort Appache The Bronx(great Paul Newman Cop Movie)
I have more, but this will do for starters

i have a question for you ShareDaddy:

did you like the movie Alien or Aliens.. there is a difference, for Aliens is the sequal to Alien. Just checking to make sure you knew.. but you seem to know what you're talking about!

I have a few comments on your fav movies: :D

For Resevoir Dogs, you call it "Bloddy and Gory." But i'd like to disagree. It is famous for that torture scene (you know what i'm talking about), but it's not as gory as say... Texas Chainsaw Masacre or Hellraiser... When i think Gory, i think Human Organs.. and Resevoir Dogs definatley isnt like that! (Just trying to make that clear)

Predator and T2 = i agree with you on their awesomeness. T2 could almost be a movie all on its own, without the original. I hope they come out with T3 (http://www.terminator3.com/) quickly!!

Also, I'm really glad to see you're a Boondock Saints fan. Very awesome action movie.

Something About Mary actually is one of the 20th Centuries greatest comedies (according to AFI). And frankly, i'd have to agree.

But in the Comedy department, i completley prefer Kevin Smith movies (minus his latest, Jay & Silent Bob strike back).

OH! and for all the Pee Wee fans, have any of you seen Big Top Pee-Wee? Wasnt as good as Big Adventure, but still... it's pee wee.

i'll return with more movie talk later! B)

Blade Runner (Original)

Just some I've watched recently for the ?th time and still enjoy. God, there must be hundreds that I could watch regularly, but I couldn't list just five, and those I have are in no particular order. First off IC, Yes I meant ALIENS, with an S, it is probably my all time favorite monster type movie, and as I stated I have a lot of favorites.

The version of The Boondock Saints that I have is avi and no longer shared, had to make room for my ever expanding shared list. But a special nod has to be given to this movie, it is the best, under marketed film of all time. I do not think I ever saw a preview for this, and if I did it did not do the film justice. I just happen to come across a guy sharing the film and the trailer, so I downloaded the trailer and instantly had to download the movie. Everyone I know, now loves it also.

As I stated in my post I would have left off many I would be mad about, all of your posts contain other movies I would have added had they came to mind.

I also like all of the NL Vacation movies, with a special fondness for Christmas Vacation. Modern Problems is another hilarious Chevy Chase movie.

Here are a few more that deserve my aknowledgement:

Treasure of the Sierra Madres
The Maltese Falcon
It's A Wonderful Life
To Kill A Mockingbird
Romancing the Stone
Diehard (first one)
The Matrix
48 Hours
Extreme Prejudice
Sixteen Candles
Grosse Pointe Blank
Quiet Cool If anyone has this please post hash
Serendipity (another nice couples movie, sort of...)
The One (Jet Li tears it up in this one)
Stargate (and then the series SG1 were/are spectacular)

A special nod to Earth Girls Are Easy, this movie is so stupid it makes me crack up, then you add the bikini scenes and that is just enough to get a nod, if yuou know what I mean. I would never pay to see this movie, but if it is the only thing on I will watch it. HeHe

I also liked Striptease (Demi does a heck of a job) and Showgirls (a few scenes are worthy), both mainly for the skin.

Beverly Hills Cop (first one)
Any of the Jack Ryan movies, are cool.
Lethal Weapon was great
Indiana Jones Trilogy is cool.
A Few Good Men
Fatal Attraction
Basic Instinct
A Beautiful Mind
Gladiator
Monsters Inc.

Here are 2 I totally loved

The Philidelphia Experiment
The Final Countdown

Both had to do with World War II.

Mel Brooks Movies have a special place in my funny bone.

Maybe I will post another if anymore come to mind, I am exhausted now thinking about all of these movies.

I can't believe there's not one David Lynch fan here. Where's the love for "Blue Velvet"?
I never saw Blue Velvet, but i did see Mulholland Drive and Eraser Head. I really loved Eraser Head, and i think i have just about everything figured out! I should get out and see more David Lynch films. Thanks for reminding me.

Well, I like talking about movies. So this will be my first post here.

Blue Velvet was great! So was Eraser Head. The actor who played him, incidentally, was murdered a while back. I thought Lost Highway stank. And I thought Mulholland Drive stank. You could say Lynch does really cool crap. Neither Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive made any sense. Lynch stole my money when I rented those flicks.

Most recently, I saw Nemesis and The Two Towers. I thought Nemesis was pure vomit. The Two Towers, however, was great bang for the buck. The one thing it lacked was the amazing sets that were in the first Lord Of The Rings installment. I'm referring to those wonderful 'artwork' realms, whose exact names I forget. Rivendel, I believe, was one such. That really stirred my imagination. The Two Towers was darker and could have used the counter balance of those fantastic sets. But those are quibbles. I was still quite happy with this product - which cost me enough to see, even if I did see it on cheap Tuesdays (here in Toronto).

I can ad "I Am Sam" to my favorites. Not really that the movie is so great but Sean Penn puts up a world class perfomance in this movie. Real worth seeing this one. B)

Nah, nothing about that, it's about a diasabled guy getting a child. The kid is taking away from him and then he goes to court to get it back. It has a lot of humour in it. But a lot of you would find it probably dull.
But i think Sean Penn is really great in this one as an actor. He puts up an acting perfomance like Dustin Hoffman in Rainmen and Russel Crow in a Beautifull Mind.

Did you know Sean Penn pretty much started his career in a movie called "Fast Times at Ridgemont High?" Pretty funny movie about teen-life in the 80s! Very "Bill & Ted" esque.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is an hilarious movie...Sean Penn's character reminds me of some of the ski bum types I went to college with.

And Jetje, you're right, his performance in i am sam was stunning. And the story was heartbreaking too, especially if you have a daughter yourself. Daddies love daughters and daughters love daddies.

1) South Park : Bigger, Longer & Uncut

And in no particular order

Stand By Me
The Goonies
The Terminator
Kiss Of The Dragon
Bring It On (Shit film, but Kirsten Dunst is a cheerleader)
Empire Records
Half Baked
Empire Strikes Back
Road Trip

As you can guess i'm a massive south park fan,
and i like to relax when watching a film, so that means no complicated plots that require me to use my brain too much.
