my dvd burner has been failign recently telling me that i've got a power calibration error....its a NEC DVD+RW 1100a.

any ideas or help on how i can solve this?

Have you tried the NEC website (http://www.nec.com/global/support/index.html)?
Check your device manager, maybe a driver update/reinstall is in order.
