It starts automatically when your pc starts and goes in standby mode while it's not being accessed for a while. That might be great for some people, but for me it's a real pain. It delays software that only sporadicly accesses the drive.

Also with my configuration, my pc won't start when the drive is plugged in. I get stuck in my bios start up in that case. I hear many other people have the same problem with this drive.

you probably have a gigabyte motherboard. gigabyte mbs are notorious for not being able to boot properly with excessive usb devices plugged in, not just HDDs.

and speaking about the on/off button thing, well i think wd drives are just fine. u'll get used to the on/off thing. personally i dont plug the power cable in unless i need to access the disk.
