What do people think of EDonkey 2000.
Please mention any good or bad points.

The donkey is great if your looking for large video and game files before they're on Kazaa, but the download speeds really suck. In fact, other than the better selection, everything about the donkey sucks. That goes for EMule, too.

I had the same problem as you until I updated the server list. Click here. (http://www.edonkey2000.com/documentation/connect.html) It still takes a while to connect though.

i like edonkey, i use it a lot, u always have to update ur server list tho, i recommend maurice's lists or using the edonkeybot. I use it to get apps and games because i know that everything is real thats on their network, not as many fakes

mat_gray, edonkey 2000 is the absolute best for large files and original quality cds. if u need isos/bins/cues, edonkey is probably the best thing for the job

kazaa is best for anything else (tho its games and apps are pretty good too)

i use kazaa mostly for music because i think thats all its good for, its got the least amount of fake songs that download quickly, i use DC and ED2k tho for everything else. Also everything i get off DC and ED2k i share on kazaa, to keep the real files more available and moving

DC is better, and faster than eDonkey Kong. Try it once and you'll be pleasantly surprised. You'll get the best files if you share at least 15-20GB. It's very easy to get full albums and programs. Some guys have like 100-200 albums on their HDDs.

From what I can see, eMule doesn't support socks5 proxy, and I'm not going to install sockscap just for 1 week. I wonder how many people using sockscap remember that it stops working at the end of October ?
Does eDonkey support socks5 proxy ? I guess I'll have to try it to find out.

Edit:
Tried that, it obviously doesn't support socks5 proxy properly, the connection checker doesn't show the correct IP address. If k-lite can connect, there's absolutely no reason why others shouldn't be able to do it. Another one for the bin.

*edonkey & emule r shit neither ever takes advantage of more than 30% of my bandwidth. :'(

Overnet is faster (downloaded and installed it today) but it requires MS .NET installed. A later version will not have this requirement.

Unfortunately, Overnet is also crap. It's as slow as edonkey (what would you expect, it's basically the same program and from the same company using the same program options) but it installs some crap on the IE toolbar ("UCmore toolbar"). When I uninstalled the piece of crap (Overnet that is), it only removed the entry from Add/Remove programs. It kept all its files, including that UCmore toolbar. I've manually deleted the files on the HDD, and I'm now trying to locate that UCmore crap and remove it too.

Its just like emule there both slow but are very reliable and have good files on them. A lot of stuff you barely find anywhere else.
