First off, thanks for reviewing this thread! The problem I am having is with a Samsung SyncMaster3 (15 inch) monitor that is close to 10 years old. This monitor has been a faithful piece to many of my computers for many years, but recently it has lost the contrast that is required now-a-days. I have noticed that when playing newer movies, it is very dark, and does not justify the proper quality.
The only solution I have come up with (by accident) is running Warcraft 3 at the same time and putting the brightness higher. This makes the monitor behave normal in contrast.
Does anybody know of a program I can run that will make the monitor brighter without taking up 650+ megs of disk space?
Does anybody have an easier software solution for me??

Adobe Gamma is the only program that comes to mind. The only problem is i don't think it comes as a stand alone. so you would have to download photoshop. It should help and you can keep it installed if you uninstall photoshop :D

Sorry I don't have a software solution for you. I just wanted to say that I didn't know of a software solution to make you screen more vibrant. I thought it was all the video card and the monitor tube that did it for us.

Oh yeah, neevakee is right. I do have Adobe Gamma in here. I can't say it helps me that much. Probaly because I don't know how to use it, let alone even remember I had it. You might be able to get that in a stand alone piece. Do a search.

keeping the gamma increased higher than what your monitor can do (which is essentially what a game and probly that adobe gamma do)for prolonged times(not sure of how long though), can severely damage your monitor, so if your gonna use something that does that, you might wanna limit the time you let it do that.

Yes, I will have to install photoshop and play around. I realize that the monitor was not designed to bright up like that, but the thing is old.. if I kill it, oh well. It has lived a long life. No individual program to run on and off out there to anyone's knowledge. I will keep my options open.
Thanks

well i know what it is like to say good bye to an old friend. I just had to get rid of my monitor of ten years because it couldn't do 800x600. :( :( Oh well. Best of luck though :)

yes, that is one of the things. I have all these cool stickers all over it, that I doubt I will find again too. It does most of the resolutions, but lack of driver support and the display dimmed is just becoming a growing problem. Not to mention that the space that it is in can't hold that much more of a monitor (and have room for the web cam).
