Gday all

I've started burning VCD's. I need to know the best way around this prob. My DVD player is NTSC compatible but my TV is older and is only PAL compatible. Therefore I can't watch them.
Is there any way of knowing if a download is in PAL format before I choose to download it? Or
Can I convert my video file to PAL format before burning?
I take it that the majority of video downloads are in NTSC format. Am I right?

If you're using TMPGenc to encode into mpg, you can just use the Pal template (25fps) to switch it. I've never done this however, as I usually have to switch from Pal to NTSC, but I imagine the reverse would work as well.

I'm using Nero to burn the video files. Is this another bit of software I need?

Take a look at this site. (http://www.vcdhelp.com/divxtovcd.htm)(it appears to be down right now). You can find alternate instructions on making a VCD. It'll probably take longer, but I think the quality is better than using just nero. Plus, you can use the Pal template in TMPGenc to encode from divx to PAL mpg.

TMPGenc is really easy to use.

You can download it on our main site. http://doa2.host.sk

OK thanks, I downloaded TMPGEnc and I'm encoding a video in PAL. Will TMPGEnc burn as well or do I save this at the end and then burn the file I made with TMPGEnc?
BTW does 26hrs to encode seem correct to you? I have used filters. The video is about an hour long.

cheers

26hrs seems like a really long time, I guess it would depend on the type of computer you're using, and the filters you've used.
It only takes me about 2 hours to encode for every hour I'm editing, but that's without any filters.

Burn it with Nero as TGMPEn only encodes and yeah 26 hours is too long for a 1 hour movie.
