I had some trouble with my system and wanted to do a system restore a couple of weeks ago. When I got to the screen with the calandar, I noticed that there were no more system restore points.
I wondered why....but figured I would just create a new restore point once my computer became stable. When I went to create one, WindowsME told me to first restart before running create a new system restore. So I did, and after rebooting, I went to create and the same window tells me to reboot, and so on and so on.
Can someone help me to get system restore to create a restore point on my system. I have never seen anything like it before. Microsoft is worthless with help and the online help says nothing about this that I could find. I think my computer got infected (eventhough nothing comes up from Norton) and the system restore was attacked.
Thanks in advance.

Disable, reboot and then enable......
Disable System Restore
Click Start.
Choose Settings.
Select Control Panel, then System.
Click the Performance tab.
Choose File System, then Troubleshooting.
In this window, click Disable System Restore.
Click OK
now reverse to enable

There is now way I would re-install windows.
CornerPocket, I have tried the disable, reboot, and enabe method and it doesn't work. I will try again, but I have a feeling that it won't work. Any other suggestions, just in case it doesn't work because Dell never sent me the ME install disk to do a repair. Does the reinstall CD have repair?
Just wondering, if i make a backup of the registry, is that the same as creating a restore point without using the system restore program?

I'm uncertain about the Dell reinstall/restore cd. The restore cd's that I have seen from Mfg usually restore the entire system back to factory settings. If that's the case with the one you have then that would defeat the purpose of not wanting to reinstall because it does just that. Loosing everyone but the software originally installed with it. I had a older Compaq w/restore disk used for experimentation, if it bashed I just popped in cd and back like new, but evrythin else installed gone!
Anyway, perhaps the cd may have just the repair/restore ability without a total reinstall. Check into it see how it goes............If it has the ability, it should be able to restore system files without a total wipe out of other software..........if it's anything like XP, all updates will be lost and ME may need to be updated again.....

If any of your partitions are more than 200mg from being full,
system restore won't work.....
