I have this great copy of Harry Potter 2- But the sound is out of sync just enough that it's difficult to watch. Is there a trick, or is it a bad copy you think? I defraged but that didn't help.

You can use virtual dub to fix it but it is quite difficult to understand. Searching the problem with google.com can give you more information how to fix it.
But the problem can also be the player itself. A very stable player is SubViewer. http://download.com.com/3000-2194-10134051.html

You can try this or wait until some else knows a solution.

It could be that your computer is too slow.

if you ever find a file(AVI) that gets more out of sync further into the file you go use Terabits AVI Info program to rectify the problem...once you know how to use it the file can be fixed within a few seconds...amazing program for this problem....

u gonnna elaborate on where to find said program randm?
i think wot might have happened is that ur video file got currupted while d/ling, so the sound got pushed back. this is wot happened when i d/led Friday [DivX].avi, the picture broke and went all pixelated in pink and green for about 2 seconds. then it came back and the sound was out by a second or so (in front). i left it as so cos about 5 mins later, the sound resets itself and all is good. i wud fix it but dont know how either :(

Hi :-)

Well even though my computer is fast, 1,1 ghz amd (works a bit faster than my friends pentium 4 GAH 2 ghz)
256 ddram
sound goes out of sync

Ive found that IF you click on the seek bar, a few times, it will eventually fix the problem, enjoy :-)

just had the same problem - and solved it. There may be 2 causes as far as I know.
1) the audio is really out of sync. Use Google to find appropriate tool, Subsync works ok but is rather cumbersome
2) your pc is working overtime. I'm running a PIII-500 w/ 128 MB (I know, better is coming soon), and Winxp, Norton System works, Kazaa and about 50 little progs to fine-tune the works, there just wasn't enough pc for my stuff. So I made an xtra partition (Partition Magic lets you make partition without formatting your current active partition so you don't lose data) and installed WinXP, Nimo Codec Pack, and the latest Mediaplayer, and nothing else. Now all of a sudden all movies run p.p.p.perfect!

Also synchronizer can be dl'd as free standing.
