:( I recently got a Memorex DVD RW/+R for copying DVDs. It came with a number of software titles including "Sonic MyDVD" and "Nero". I just don't understand how to use it to burn DVDs. I even read the instructions (a first for me). Is there an easier program I can use?

What am trying to do is take a few of the movies I have DL and put them on DVDs for viewing/playback in my DVD Player in the other room. Also when the files/movies are downloaded they are in ".avi" format. Do I need to convert it to something else before burning or leave the file as is?

Not to change the subject, but I've been looking at DVD writers and was curious as to how long it takes to copy a 2 hour DVD start to finish using a 2x writer. Also has any one got a 4x or faster writer? I'd like to know how much difference there is in real start to finish times between 2x and 4x etc.

To Big Tom et al

If you just want to backup your DVD's with minimum fuss without all the techno-hype (Vob files, IFO etc, etc)

Go onto the net and search for DVDxCopy from 321 studios, Put your film DVD in the read drive, DVD-R or RW in the DVD writer, a click of the mouse and the program does it all. It is well worth buying!!

However here are a couple of things which you might like to know - DVDs which you buy from the shops with you favourite films on are usually dual layer. The DVDs which you buy to burn images onto are only Single layer which means that your likely to need 2 x DVD-R or RW to accomodate most films.

DVDxCopy will examine the source disk, and if it is possible for it to remove certain features which it does not need to copy, (such as Spanish language subtitles, or extra features), it will suggest that it copies the film only to the first disk and you can choose whether or not you wish to burn the second disk. It is not possible to do this to all films and most need to be split across 2 disks.

When you visit 321 Studios site you can look at the list of compatible DVD players which will recognise the DVD+R or DVD+RW formats. Not all do, only one of the 3 DVD players in my house work with the copied DVDs. The good news is that the more modern the DVD player you have, the more chance there is that it will recognise the format.

Hope this helps.
