View Full Version : Lack Of Sharing?!?!

I am a Kazaa user for some time, even upgraded my modem to cable to dl and upload faster. However, lately I have been noticing a huge decrease in the amount of people sharing, specifically new movies.
Firstly, have you all been noticing this as well?
Secondly, I know people are advanced programmers, which is why we have diet kazaa and random nut's kazaa. Is there any way to only people to download if they are uploading. Is there any way to control the upload to a min bandwidth. There must be a way to program that in the next hack of kazaa. Anybody share my views?

As I type this, there are 4,370,370 users online, how high do you want it to go ?
Go to "Options" "Advanced" to alter your bandwith.

The amount of users are not the amount of sharing. Additionally, I was referring more specifically to larger files, or movies, not necessarily songs.

I think when "they" think of a way of blocking leechers ( a working way i mean) you'll see a lot of bogus files, fakes etc. I prefer leechers that way.

I agree with CU, i started sharing my music as that is what i own alot of.
As i now have broadband I would like to dl movies and...
this may be off topic, BUT,
alot of the users that do share movies seem to be using fakes, ie renaming files as new movies to gain more uploads i guess?
i think if Randum Nut were to reprogramme his version, cheaters would just use another.
but i cant think of an answer.
OK, I am a leech, but not by choice. Two things are happening. I check the folders I want to share from 3 drives, then go into kazaa and see that I'm sharing 10000+ files. I look at what I checked and every folder on each drive is checked thus sharing the whole drive. The second part is that no one is downloading from me ever. They used to a lot. They do if I'm using winmx, but I like kazaa best. What is the problem if I have shared music and movies, but no one downloads from me when I am sharing files.

You may have overloaded Kazaa's sharing limit -- not in files but in directories. Maybe it can only search through 64/128/256 directory levels?
Try sharing a subset of your files before giving up hope -- it's not like people can download all that in 1 day anyway. Some people rotate their shared files on weekly/monthly basis.
BTW, sharing that many files at once means a sizeable portion of your bandwidth is used up every time someone tries to browse your files. And even general searches are going to find many 'matches' among so many files.

Kodu - use the search tool in the problems or question ssection. This is a common thread and most find they're answer in the FAQ or by searching those sections.
I think the RIAA and the like have upset enough users who are sharing Movies.
A few ppl have been had for sharing Minority Report..Now I know if I got this file..I would watch and delete.
Plus there are many out there like me..who just dont have the space for sharing many movies..I only got 20 Gigs and with all my games and stuff I use it leaves about 4 gigs that I can play with..so I have to move my Movie files around and eventually Delete them when I get more films.
Also, I dont know about you guys, but ever since Kazaa went over the 4 Million mark I have had my share of trouble with speed and searches..Can the network handle this many ppl?

i wud lyk to share but im weary incase the piracy police come and arrest me for downloading music, films, software etc...all pirated. someone pls tell me- will i get caught if i share??
I Share TV Episodes and MP3s and the odd Movie till I delete it and get a new 1.
As far as getting caught goes..Fuck it :)
Some ppl gonna get done for it..But it depends on so much..Like your ISP,What country you live in..What Rights your government protect for you.
I guess we all worry about getting caught at some point.
As far as I have seen..It comes as a warning from your ISP..so if you get that..Remove the offending File that your sharing.
Share something is all I say..even if its a small amount..your doing your bit :)

I only share porn. I'm living in denmark, so I'm right smack-down in the danger zone. I don't like not sharing anything, so I share lots and lots of porn. Alot of it "fresh" (ie stuff that isn't already on KaZaA). I feel like it's not as jepardous to share porn, as it is to share things like movies and music. It feels a bit odd, though, downloading mp3s of some pop group or episode of "Simpsons" while all my shared files are freaky pr0n. Kids sharing music, don't check my files

Sharing TV shows are a pretty safe bet -- they are already released to the public, and you are not 're-broadcasting' them because people cannot watch them in Kazaa while downloading them if they use AVI format which requires file repair and/or missing video/audio codecs.
These are even safer than sharing MP3s, because it's pretty hard to argue piracy of something that's already being 'given away' and can be legally recorded. (depending on where you live...)
I share anime tv shows -- these are all subbed or dubbed in English, as it reaches the largest audience that way...

I agree with you, CableUser, we need to find a way to make some changes to the program to set a "minimum upload requirement". I have been saying exactly the same thing around here. As you can see the forum doesn't seem to be a good place to make this happen. You just get a bunch of opinions from people as to why it is ok to leave it the way it is (or something like that). There is the odd person that will agree and then the subject gets changed again to something else.

Thats what Direct Connect, they ask you to ask a limited amount before joinging onto a server. But i think that discourage people from using P2P programs.
I'm trying to download Sim City 4, and it's early days, but i've not gone far so far. I'm disspoiunited in how slow i'm going with my Cable connection. I think you need to introduce Sig2dat to everyone who uses it. The serach on Kazaa itself is taking the "sharing of files" away/

I am getting p**sed off with users that are getting 15KB/s DL from me and then have a go at me when politely i ask if they have anything files to share.
I know its not a great deal of bandwidth but it averages about 15x faster than the 1 KBsec DL i get!
Its like i'm sharing stuff with you that i paid money for or paid money to access and dl and now im paying to share it with YOU and YOU want to literally abuse me ?
WTF?
Sorry but this user got me heckles up a bit and i needed to rant.
Has anybody else suffered P2P abuse for their participation?

I am new to this file sharing thing , and it is amazing how everybody is so up tight about who shares and who don't. I started out downloadind movies and then deleting them, because I didn't know how all this worked. But when I found out I would leaving my files up as long as I could be that I have a limited hard drive space. I realize how important it is to share, but it is more important to continue to share, because not everyone is a experience user of kazaa. Please don't misunder what I am saying, because I am a cable modem user and people download from alot and use the hell out of me. But its ok because I have used somebody before when I started out.
