this is the same fella that cliams he came up with a worm that infects p2p hosts. so i would not put too much stock in his cliams. but it still is interesting reading about how these fake files are getting into the networks.

What about those that have downladed Fake files and keep sharing them?

I have contacted ppl on Kazaa about a file I have felt suspect about and they have confirmed the file..only to find out they have Bull-Shitted me as well.

My opinion..Too many kids around!

they must have a right laugh at us downloading their 700MB files only to learn they are fake..How much fun is that!!??

if they do flood the network to an extent that all the files are fakes then you would just have to put up with it. there is no point being angry about it you are stealing other peoples work you know.

I hate both and as everyone else said its free so we shouldnt complain but as 4play said true it's one of the hazards of kazaa along with viri, trojans and leechers. We have to complain to vent some steam out. when i first started kl, i dl'ed a fake spiderman that took me about 3 days to get being a 56k'er, all night and all day dl'ing.... <_< but now im a DSL dl'er and we have AVIpreview now for movies... but for games and software We just gotta that right line em all up along with bill gates and shoot them all make the world a better place for it if we do get a fake

Actually I don't give a damn anymore. Thanks to Avi Preview, I know well in advance if a movie download in progress is something I want or not. And tho there is no good way to test game exes in advance, I figure that anything I get that works is cake anyway. And sometimes I get frosting, too. Wonderful little surprises. And I don't mind tossing anything that doesn't work or that I don't like. Great German expression: Nur Zeit. (Only Time.)

But two years ago, when I first discovered P2p, and wasn't certain if it would continue, and desperately tried to snag every lost piece of music I ever had, and when I measured success after gathering enough to make just one Mp3 archive after two or three weeks or even a month, on a 56k dialup, and infuriating my employer by doing said same on office time...

Well, as I said, it was a desperate time. Now, everybody, just relax. This thing is not going to go away, and now? Now I have almost everything I want, though there are a bunch of movies I'm after.

Still I'm not worried. Got Duck Soup, and I wasn't even able to get that when I had two VCRs and rented and copied all the time. Got Treasure Of The Sierra Madres. Got Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf. Got The Longest Day. Got Unforgiven. Got Seven Samurai. Got Magnificent Seven. Got Chinatown. Got To Kill A Mockingbird. Got The Great Santini. Got The Great Escape. I could go on but this isn't the verifieds.

Etc.

thta when i was on dial up
it took me a minimum of 2 weeks to get a dvd rip and the ocasion it turned otu fake i felt like throwing my comp out thw indow or something
and the reason it took me so long because on dial up if u stay idle for more then 2 hours in auto disconnects so basically i had to supervise my downloads which i havent got time for

Today fakers isn't the problem, but leechers is! And especially leechers sharing crap.
So far the only one effective way to stop them is to IP ban them.
P.S. Certanly, after verifying them as leechers.

Hmmm yes both are bad, but fakers seem to be the most hated. Thank god for the AVI preview, so we dont have to put up with this. If i find a fake or a crap copy of something, it gets trashed period! Now if everyone was to do this, wouldnt we have less fakes and crap copies? Bit of common sense here really.

Comparing a faker with a leecher is not fair ... for the leecher. Especially when these are 56Kers with need all their bandwith to get something out of the net. We could say that a broadband leecher is nerly as bad a s a faker. I wish I could make that avi preview to work (any ideas?) but I still have to wait for the file to dl.... which since I have kazaalite is not very long.

I respect the rights of authors, artists and companies blah, blah, blah but as long as I can get it free and give what I have away....

If your having problems with AviPreview, try opening up the program, and dragging and dropping the .dat file onto that black screen and see if your able to preview it and also make sure you have at least 1 meg to see if it works and at least 5 - 10 Megs of it to actually verify the movie...

If the download is quick, I'm not too upset to see that it's a 'fake' file (i.e. not the file I thought I was dl'ing). I'll just delete it, if it's nothing I want, or keep it, but rename the file, and change the details immediately. I don't mind leechers, but if people would share, it sure would make the dl thing a lot faster.

What I try to do when I'm dl'ing files is I uncheck the box, and hold my mouse over each individual file, looking for changes. I was trying to get a movie last night, and one user had the file marked as being something other than what I was looking for - just one.. and that was enough to save me from a 2 hour DL.

Rename your files, folks! You might save someone some serious aggravation ;)

I think the lechers are worst, because eventually THEY'RE the biggest problem,
you can easily get around the fake files problem, by using programs such as avi-preview, and using verifieds sites. The point with fake files is that it's the most in-your-face problem, but I think Leechers are the bigger problem.
You see leechers corrupt the very essence of p2p, and that is that when somebody downloads a file it becomes more available because the number of sources is growing. The problem with leechers is that they're just taking up slots and not giving anything in return except for the fact that most of them run KMD and bring in big scoops of money for Sharman...

I can stand leechers, after all, 99% of legit Kazaa users (no pl hack) prob have between 0 and 10 pl, but faking is SO f'ing annoying...
