I have 2 maxtor 7200 rpm hdd's

the slave of the 2 has developed this annoying intermittant "humm"

i was thinking that if i arranged it differntly then it might stop, though i dont want to twist the ide cable.

so i was wondering if i were to turn them on their back (hence the australian thing) would they still work and or would it cause any dammage to them???

cheers

I've used drives turned on end and on their sides. The only warning I've ever read, with some of them, is a prohibition about being operated upside down. I guess gravity, as well as magnetism, may play a part in some designs. At any rate, if you go to the mfgr's website and read the FAQs, you should be able to find the answer. I don't think there is a global answer.
