I'm on a dialup connection and I like to dl large files (games and movies etc) so I d/l them overnight. I usually set it to go before I go to bed and disconnect when I get up. I also leave it on if there's no one at home.
If I had broadband, it would probably be on 24/7.
Damn I want a broadband connection.
My usage is about the same as sim one.
And my feelings about the same re broadband.
Gosh, I just realised I only registered my interest in broadband in July 1999. What can I be thinking of ?

I would say between 6 and 20 hours depending on what i want.

you crazy, man. It would be much cheaper, and legal, to actually buy LOTR. 5 days = 7,200 minutes. How much do they charge you a minute?

How much do they charge you a minute?
My connection costs me $20/month with no d/l limits. The only problem is that I get kicked off every 4 hours, but I've got my pc on auto dial if connection drops.
What really sucks is if you download a fake.

Same as the Lord of the Rings guy ...... at the moment I am 3/4 way thru d/l and big ISO file (750MB) and I only have 22 hours to go!! I guess having Upload activated slows me down some too.
Other than for this one massive upload, and one other, usually just a coupla hours a day to get some MP3s.

I never turn Kazaa off on my business computer :D :D :D
So it's like 24 hours a day 30 days per month 12 months per year :D
Until I get fired when caught doing this
And I share 30 GB (used to be almost 50 GB) of excellent music, both ripped from my cds and dlded from others.
I never share programs or porn - both seem to be dangerous in some sense <_<

By the way I knew FC would have something to say about KazaaSearch's post and he lived up to expectations.

Im on kazaa lite almost all the time, I usually download films which are up to 700mb...fortunately i have dsl which is a god send...hehe 56k'rs must be sooooo frustrated with kazaa, i get annoyed when my rates reach below 10kb/s. However I have a problem, i know this is not the appropriate page..but its about newsgroups, can anyone help me out on how i go about joining...
It's on 24/7 except on the rare occasion when the wife goes on line and i have to shut it down.
she complains the web pages open to slowly when i have kazaa lite running.

Am I missing something here? but if I'm on any sort of permanent connection - cable in my case- surely it's 24/7 unless you're worried about 'leccy bills. It does more harm than good by turning pcs on and off. Ones at work are left on 25/8 so surely it's no hardship to do the same. It's late at night but I think I know what I'm typing. - Still doesn't do a great deal for participation level - I've got to stop searching!!! :/<

New to Broadband, Kazaa and movie downloading. But I'm on 24/7 and I'm sharing everything I've download (except the fakes which I remove to prevent anyone else getting caught). I give 128kps upload bandwidth which I think is reasonable?
I usually do all the time. the shitty thing is I share more than I download and I still have a low rating. I leave the fucker on all night and it doesn't make a world of difference...

A few "Technical terms" in your reply there!
Anyway, not been able to work out that participation level out myself yet. When I'm go to bed I'm a guru (or so says the wife!!) but when I've return to the PC in the morning I'm high, and that's with loads of uploads from my machine.

As i have ADSL i can afford to be online 24/7 (the electric bills suck though). K-lite is on nearly all of the time as i am sharing all the files and have at least 4 people downloading all the time so it would be a crime to just cut them off for no reason. Also, most of the films i like to dl take between a day or two for some reason!

Broadband, it's a wonderful thing, no?
im on 24/7 all day everyday, i share everything i download, problem is only got a 12 gig hdd and no cdwriter so occasionally have to get rid of some big files just to make space for new ones. my shared folder is over 7 gigs so going to have to do it shortly.
i have a laptop and it never gets hot, bit crap for games though running windows 2000 and i cant upgrade my graphics card (on the motherboard) 8meg of vid ram.
im also on cable broadband in the uk been on it for three minths now forgot to send the contract away and direct debit info so never been charged yet moneys in the bank just in case though.
and sounds like im lucky with the electic bill as well have a key meter, laptop running 24/7, 3tvs sky video hifi 2 playstation 2`s and another pc running most of the day and its only charging me about 20pence a day about 35cents for the electric.
need a cdwriter though but hard to get an external one for less than £150 so got to save up a while longer lol

I close it at night, when I turn off the PC, as my wife thinks the fan is too load, even if we have the bedroom upstairs. I'm king in my own house, unluckily do I live in Sweden, were the king has no power, it's the government that decides.
Else would it be 24/7.
And if I cut anyone, than I'm a dick, but that has nothing to do with that. It's more my parents, or my sisters, fault, as they gave me the name I have. :)

24/7 asides from reboots or if I can't tolerate the fan sound while trying to go to sleep. I'm too fanatical about the stuff I want to needlessly log off and run the risk of missing someone coming on with it. With the beta crack going, autosearch clicking search more for me, and click off clicking the "kazaa is not connected" box when it disconnects along with muy dsl i'm in heaven. :D

I'll admit I'm on Kazaa lite less lately. Even with the cracked version I have a lot more success getting the just-released files on other networks. Emule, irc, and winmx have all been faster getting the new ones lately. I'm on the forum constantly. But more often it is to get exact filesizes to look for on other networks and share the ones I have. I makes me sad.

Also it depends on if there is anything i wanna download.. ..

I have 256 up and down dsl internet so I have left k-lite running for days at a time.
Other days I shut this pc off and use the mac. Then once a month I shut them all
down and defrag and do some cd burning backups and zip disk backups also.
If I go on vacation for more than 2 days, then I shut all 5 computers down.
(2 macs and 3 winboxes)
My participation level says supreme being but not sure what that means
because everyone that ever gets songs from me is a deity. But when I
look to see what they are sharing, it shows between 6 to 6000 files on
their computer ?
I am not sure how many users I can support at one time. I have it set for
3 right now but have yet to try more. I guess I don't want Qwest to mess
with me. Also it is really weird but I share 1,659 files currently but all day
people are getting the Lord of the Rings movies from me. I have DOS games,
doc and text files and tons of photos and 7-8 porn videos but still the LOTR
is all that people get ! Wacky ! Oh wait, someone did get a Tick tv show
from me once.....
Also I noticed that some people mention their laptop overheating. So
yes, you need to get some airflow under it. Some stores sell little cork
or plastic foam circles and you could put a few of those on the bottom of
the laptop and get some cooling under there.
But really it is important to restart most windows computers every so
often because when you download a program from the net or an update
for the os, then there are certain files that are put into the temp folder
or other folders that need a reboot to function.
Also Dell or Pacbell did a electric survey of cost to leave the computer
on and found it was $42 bucks to leave computer and monitor on all
year long. These were desktops and the year was 1999 or so. YMMV.
Some computer monitors can be set to shut off after 15 minutes or
whenever. If you do that, then your power bill should be less. But
it sure is nice to leave the Winamp visualizations run all the time ! (^:
Some countries charge electricity differently so YMMV which means
Your Mileage May Vary.
Lastly, in another thread there was a tip that mentions to keep clicking
the "Find More Resources For Download" on every file you are trying
to get. It works for me ! I was shocked. Say I find a song that has
2 users sharing it. I start the d/l and then go to the traffic area and
click the + sign. Then I right click "Find More Resources For Download"
on each person listed and wait 30 seconds and 2 more usually pop up !
Then I click again "Find More Resources For Download" on everyone
listed again. Usually 4 more pop up ! Very cool ! Then I keep doing that.
I have gotten up to 14 users before for a movie and 6 users for songs.
It has to do with the length of the d/l. Anyway, it might not work for 56k
users but worth a try.
bye,
JM

I got 1.5m/b service down, 256 up. Its sweet, I leave it running 24 hours a day, i am constantly downloading movies and junk. I got about 50 dvd rips on a 120gb disk i got. I_bring_order_to_chaos if u ever download from me. I even manged to get a download from my ffriend when he said he was downloading from my name one time....... I only close it if i need to upload a file fast thats like over 10 mb to freinds or something. Hehe, if that new service plan companys are thinkign about comes into play, i am gonna have to pay alot...its pricing per gb of transfer much like many servers and such. And if you go over limit, alot more $. I tracked my up/down on my router one month, when the damn cable internet didn't go out for one month strait, very rare....was 5gb down, 15 gb up. I run edonkey to...as well as other file share cleints, and maybe 1gb goes to my family....they download alot of mp3's.. Amazing, i had 15gb up. Thats more than alot of servers...... If my hard drive ever crashes, i am skrewed for all my movies. To many for cd-rs, most would fit on cd's, exept a few, and to exprensive to burn dvd-r's. Would take over a dozen or 2 4.7gb discs. Got a sony dvd±rw drive/. Burns dvd=r at 4x, -rw at 2x, +R at 4x (Fastert speed dvd+r drive) and dvd+rw at 2.4x. To long to burn the dvd's to.

Yeah, using 56k is a pain, but practicle at the moment. It's hard to keep your P/L high too. Download anything big, traffic set to 1, go out for a day or so, P/L almost nothing, set traffic to 4, leave for a few days to get back to Guru. Sound familiar to anyone else

I try to leave it on all the time. Except for disk scanning, defragging, etc., it pretty much is. I just started with Kazaa. I just recently switched over from Bearshare and the difference is incredible. When I used to leave Bearshare open and walk away I'd return to find my computer had crashed more often than not. This has not happened yet with Kazaa. I have a cable modem so I only turn off if I have to reboot or we have a blackout or something (happens more than you think).

Gosh, I just realised I only registered my interest in broadband in July 1999. What can I be thinking of ?
Just got a letter from my ISP (Freeserve).
They seem to think that over 20 hrs/day average is a little excessive.
Well stuff them, I've finally got broadband (and not from Freeserve), so from now on it will probably be 24/7.
Probably need to be careful with that 1 Gig/day limit tho.

I get like 25-50 visitors a day to my site, and not all of them go to the x-treme music videos section, that's why I depend on kazaa to help me distribute my music videos. www.conspheretrix.cjb.net if ur interested, if not then screw it, cuz its kind of late now, get some sleep dudes.

I theoretically leave mine on 24/7 but I'm using Windows ME so I have to reboot every 8 minutes.

Just until I reach the point of throwing my 56k modem out the window! I'd trade my first child for a cable modem (if I had a first child, or any child for that matter). <_<

The only time I turn it off is when I shut my computer down. I can surf the net with it on (I have xDSL), so it doesn't really bother me much. I also use a paid version of getRight, so with its nice accellerated features, I can do quite a bit of downloading in both IE and Kazaa.

In the past I would have said all day everyday, but now, I tend to have Kazaa running at night when I'm asleep. I quickly found out not to run Kazaa while using Photoshop.

I have broadband modem. This means that I have a shared connection which means that it is faster depending how many people are it. I like to leave it one while i sleep since that is the fastest time to download. I generally leave it on 8 hours a night or more.

Only time I go on is when I want something... it takes up sooo much ram, so I just use media players ;)
Since I started going on the Forum, I actually have a good reason to go on... (i'm too lazy to type in www.kazaalite.tk and going through the links.. haha)

I have my baby on 24/7. If you can find my supernode, your in for a treat, I have a ton of Aretha Franklin and animal porn :)
Half the stuff on my computer I don't even look at (I think I'd puke) but the thing is, I am a TRUE file-sharer, and I don't just share my files. I share over 1500 files and I think 500 of them I've actually viewed. I like to search for things that a majority of people will view, so as to provide an additional hi-speed source for a lot of stuff.

I keep it fairly limited, sometimes not even opening it up every day. I try not to keep a lot of programs open and I heard that Kazaa Lite sucks up a lot of resources.
