Hi
I've recently upgraded to XP from 98se and twice in the last few days my pc has shut itself down and restarted.
When it restarts it says the system has recovered from a serious error, when you look at the error report it says the file that it is sending to microsoft is a .dmp file, anyone know what this does??
Also when I did the upgrade it told me my adsl modem was incompatible with XP, I've contacted my ISP and they told me it was just the driver that had to be updated, do you think that's what could be causing the restarts??
Cheers.

the .dmp file is created by the NT series of MS OS's when they crash (XP is NT5.1) - its a copy or sometimes a small segment of what was in your system memory when the system crashed.
It normaly is driver probs that crash XP, make sure that you have the latest XP drivers for everything

Them dmp files contain a whole lotta nothing (or atleast to anyone outside of M$)..
Dunno if this is the same in XP, but it should be.....To turn that off right click on my computer, than goto properties, than the advanced tab and click the button that says startup & recovery
when that comes up, down where it says write debuggin info pick none..

It probly is your modem drivers causing the crash, as outdated drivers (or not compatible) are the most common things to cause any OS to crash

Yeah updating all of your drivers should fix the problem. ;)
