I've got this nifty little progam called "DUmeter" that tells me yesterday I downloaded 12.3 Gb. Okay, maybe my internet service provider might start complaining...

I have KazaA Lite first started on Saturday. I downloaded 4 files, one song was titled "We're not gonna take it" from The Donots, but it was another band or artist. And from Quenns of the Stone Age (No one knows) the song ends, but you hear, that the song is not over. So maybe I download 4 files per week.
Do you understand me?

Interesting range of responses in this poll...there are those who download 3 Gb daily, and even one who says that he/she dls only about four files a week. (If those are chart hits that would only be about 20 Mb but if they are movies...)
I myself have quit downloading, or at least until December 4 (see elsewhere for the terms of the wager) but even after then there are only a few afterthoughts...there are some movies I want.
Still, I'm surprised that for running a month, this topic has so few replies...

Ya know I had a friend who d/l a couple of james bond movies, and they had no sound to them. I don't remember which ones (I'm thinking one might have been that Timothy Dalton one). Is that common that you found some of the bond movies audioless? Maybe it was just a fluke occurance that happened twice to the same set of movies?

Eh, my connection sucks, so I just like to find some b-side remixes of my fave artists, nothing fancy.. just something to listen to every once in a while. I will be lucky to complete 4 songs an evening.

Checked off 500mb to 2GB. Really not a good answer it all depends on what I am looking for and what the doenload speeds are for what I am down loading. Sometimes speed sucks at less then 1kb/s and that makes ait take for ever.
PS. having viewed different posts it seems there is really no control over download speeds.
Just wish I could get those hot speeds some people say they have.

whats the du meter you guys are talking about and where can i get a copy??
for starters just search it in google and secon, GO HERE (http://www.dumeter.com) and download it, it is a handy little program, that tells you ur download speeds and can do all sorts of things with information such as amount down/up - loaded, projections alerts... etc. a very nice program that uses almost no system resources.
so anyway i used to download a cds worth a day but now it is 3g a month + whatever i can get at 28kb modem speeds caus broadband in australia sucks
last year i managed to download 180gig or so
this year thanks to caps that will be cut to 40gig... quite pathetic, the service i initially joined for has been changed severley and because of shitty tricks employed by the telco, ie. bundling phone, mobile and cable together and getting cheaper rates, this causes my dad to refuse to change providers.....
you americans are so god damn lucky. <_<

I really don't download that much from k-lite anymore, but I leave it running most of the time. I'm after new movies and it's faster for me to get them off of other networks. Still use k-lite for the stuff that's readily available though, cause it can be lightning fast.

I would love to download about 3gb per day but with download speeds generally around 1 to 10kb/sec, over my cable modem, I can't do it. I have 2 computers connected over cable and I can only download about 1/2 movies per 24 hours.

I average about 200MB a day or about 6GB a month which for dialup isn't too bad. Mostly isos, tv eps, stuff like that (I like to keep up with the latest eps of 24 in particular...). Cable is still way too overpriced here in Oz and the way it works out is that I can download about twice as much per month on dialup as I could on a cable plan for about half the price. Takes forever though...

I am new to this BB.
I have a 10Mbit connection that i use to it's fullest.
I download about 30GB per day at will.
Unfortunately I cannot share (1 kilobit max), because I am at a university (UF) with good administrators, they DO sniff data and they DO terminate hosts.
If I was not "internet security saavy" I would have been disconnected for just having 1214 and my other port listening.
(Note: before they became extremely restrictive I shared about a terabyte of media. :) )
Please share insight / related thoughts.

usally around 2-5gigabyte a day. but it depends on what i'm looking for and the sources i find. oh and i have a 10mbps hacked/uncapped cable connection. and i have seen 1000+kbs in kazaa lite. i might have had higher before but it all depends on the sources. so basically 2-5gigs a day. and i only got a 20gig hard drive. so i delete a lot of stuff.

I've got two 120Gb Hard drives of purely downloaded stuff (Mainly Movies & Iso's). I usually have to archive my files to CD every 2 weeks when the 2 120GB's are full, & I start to store files on my 80GB system drive!!!!!

Why do you need so much space,... Can't you just put the stuff you downloaded on CDs? ;)
I just have 40GB, But I will get some more. When I will have comcast broadband or better...

I put less than 500 megs, but that's just a guess. Sometimes I dl a bunch of stuff for hours, other days, I don't dl anything. I'm sharing just over 10.6 Gigs on a cable connection. I have mostly music, then documents, then images. I'm currently on a White Wolf & other RPG books dl'ing kick. That's my main interest. I actually dl stuff I'm not even interested in, because others might be, though.
It's a shame you can't search for a specific user on Kazaa. I'm just curious, would it be easier for other White Wolf & RPG fans to find my stuff if I made my comp a supernode? We just got a new HD, went from 20G to 120G, and I'll probably fill a lot of it with RPG stuff.

when my harddisks are to full ,I burn the better movies away on cd's

I'm sharing a lot more than I am receiving.
100 megs a day, but usually I download huge files that range anywhere from 400 to 2 GBs daily. This only takes an hour or so depending on how many users have the file. I'm sharing 16,243 @ 16 GB.

I download 3-5 gigs per day long as I don't run out of file names that I want. I have used kazaa for about 2 years now and kazaa lite for about 5 months. I have copied dvd for share using , apex dvd player from walmart in conjuction with a sweet little erase your macro-vision chip program from googles for apex --ad 1500 dvd player called (U1500am.rom) wich streams perfect copies on to my All In Wonder Vid Card and then Burn them off to VCD wich plays in a dvd player or pc ( cdr-readable drive and burn then off using roxio platinum 5. I have Provided many movies to many peoples . I was using a p-3 451 but have upgraded to an AMD 2500+ most recently, wich would approxamate to a p-4 1.83 so I am told but anyway now I can buy a DVD burner ( since my pc is greater than 600 mhz now) doing exactly the same approach accept now I can choose DVD NOT VCD and just hit copy . It's gonna get sweeter for all you users who take my files because they will be perfect in all the sense of the word. Much better than robbing VOBS or any tmpge change ups --20 min copies..or DVD to VCD for share. so you can put it on a CDR. $5.00 to rent a dvd and .50 cent a CDR or what ever for blank dvd's--still worth perfect and I mean perfect copies. I am however waiting til I see a DVD Burner at 6 or 8 speed all I see are 4's. I hope I have provided some information that some off you will be able to use. I do not provide others with copies but I can tell you that ALL VOB robbing sucks compared to this method.Finding an apex is the trick. See this is what I don't understand about dedicated 56krs. Why not hook up two or three additional modems and boost your speed to 256kb? I subscribe to xDSL (Verizon) and it's pretty goddamned expensive. For about 50 bucks, I get roughly 100KB/s. That, my friends, is just double what a 56k modem can pull. If you linked four of 'em, (and it's easy as hell), you'd get a DEDICATED 256k connection.
chalkmongoose
07-14-2003, 02:40 AM
And to help, I did a few calculations.
I paid over 100 for a wireless router, then an additional 75 for another one, 75 for a wireless card, and 40/50 bucks per month for xDSL connectivity.
For 10 bucks a month, you can get good dedicated 56k and a static IP. Then if you look around on Ebay, you can pick up 56k modems for about the same price. Call your phone company, and have them setup five phone lines in your house. Use one for calls, and then use the remaining four for your modem. Some companies will do this for free, or some charge a small setup charge. My friends have done this for less than 50 bucks, and a incredibly small addition to their monthly bill. Install your modems and setup dialup networking to link 'em all together. Now you have dedicated 256k, which works better than my xDSL!

THE FILE SHARING MANIFESTO
So now the music industry greedheads want to play rough. What’s the matter, their coke dealer won’t front anymore? Those techno-ghouls have been living high on the hog for the past 100 years and now they’re upset because the river of gold is down 10%. If they want to play rough, so can we. The only reason they can afford to pay their lawyers is because we all still buy CDs.
There is only one proper response to the file sharing attack – a complete and total boycott of all new recorded music purchases. Imagine if you got a summons in the mail. We must support our file sharing brothers and sisters. I SAY NO PURCHASES OF ANY NEW CDS OR DOWNLOADS UNTIL THEY CHANGE THE LAW ON FILE SHARING!! If you want music go to a show, or buy or trade used CDs.

I download as much as is needed for my survival. I'm not one of the crazed hax0rs sitting in their den drinking coca-cola and staring glassy-eyed at a screen for hours on end (Jonno... Where are you?)
For example, when I need a graphics-editing program, I go online and download a copy of Paintshop Pro from their site. At 60 days per trial-license, it's useless to download a fake copy.
The same applies for programs such as Macromedia Fireworks/Dreamweaver.

To those who are concerned about artist's royalties, you've been brainwashed. Music is a performing art - the key word here is performing. If artists want to get paid, they need to perform. Not live like ghouls on the ghosts of old echos.
Consider the artists who have been most commercially successful on recordings. They have almost all been destroyed by that success. On the other hand an old dope fiend like Jerry Garcia survived for years despite his self destructive ways, largely, IMHO, because his recordings were not money makers and he had to tour.
Besides the whole industry is only the result of a technical glitch where it was easy to record, but difficult to copy. Those days are over. They all need to accept the new paradigm or fade away.

Even DVDs won't last very long with such a high bandwidth. I have a 1.5 Mbps DSL and get a max of 150 kilobytes per second (constant rate) down on BitTorrent (I still use K-Lite sometimes). I can download like 3 or 4 movies a day. I recently bought a new 120 GB hard drive, which is almost full now. I could burn all my stuff on DVDs but that would be like chaos pure, since I would have to split everything up. I am already thinking about a new 250 GB or 300 GB hard drive (that monster from Maxtor)! Or even better...some NAS (Network Attached Storage) with like 6 or 8 drive bays! :beerchug:

I dont dl everyday, but when I do it's around 50-100mb. Takes too much time to check if the version you downloaded isn't fake or has skips in it. I hate when you search for a mp3 and practically everyone has the version with the skip, and then I just give up and buy the cd if I can't find decent quality songs.

Those people who want us to pay copyrights on each downloaded song really don't know what we P2Pers are really doing. I personally downloaded 1145 files so far, most of them albumwrapped albums. It would take me about 1145 hours to listen to all of these songs just once. It would take another 1145 hours to unwrap, decode mp3 into wav and burn these albums on audio cd's that I would be able to use in my home and car stereo.
BTW in my country we already pay one quarter per empty CD to the copyright organisation, although I personally use about 10 for backups for every one that I use for music. So I pay $2.75 copyright per actual music CD. In most cases I already paid the copyrights on the vinyl record and the cassette (that's also twice, isn't it?
And lets be honest, most of these albumwraps and other MP3's out here in cyberspace are just good enough to refresh your memory about how bad these good old scratchy vinyl records sounded in the good old days. Some people do make excellent MP3's, others put a microphone in front of the radio or even in front of the horn of the 78rpm player!
So far I've downloaded about 20 different versions of Ol'man river, all of them horrible. It took me at least an hour so far, searching, downloading, evaluating and deleting, just that one song. If I would have been in my car during that hour, listening to the radio, I would have heard a whole lot more music in a whole lot better quality with nobody nagging that I was breaking copyright laws, "stealing"music and so on.

i normaly download an entire anime series in about 1-3 nights, download and watch i should say, (yes, i have no life). Each anime episode (high quality) is about 220 MB each, average series length,35. downloads a night average 20, 210*20 average downloads per night = 4.4 gigs per night. Now if i was home all day......
Just out of curiousity, how is it possible for u to download over 4 gigs of data per night. Even with T1 connection it would be hard to achieve such speeds, u would have to almost maintain a speed of over 100kBs\s on all your downloads. As far as I know neither Bit Torrent, Kazaa, of Fservers can achieve such consistant speeds.
So either u have satellite connection or u know something I don't

I would say that I average about less than 100 mb per day. I can go several days where I only download a couple of mp3s or software, then there are days where I am in the mood to download movies and I download five or six cdr's worth of stuff.
Since I don't have that much hard disc space I have to dl 700mb, burn it, then delete it and start over.

Try going to animemusicvideos.org for AMV's
I'm sure they have tons of DBZ ones.
That's the best site for AMV's period.

I am downloading appr. 300 mb from fasttrack per day, plus appr. 700 mb from the irc, 50-100 from ed2k and appr. 100 from http and ftp servers. makes appr. 1.2 gb per day. but much of the stuff is junk, I remember having lost 2 gb data in two days, while downloading a movie from irc, stupid archives were broken and I had to redownload 3 times. If I had some money, I'd buy myself a bigger harddisk and a cable connection to the internet, then I'd be able to download 2-3 gb per day, then I'd be able to download all the movies and tv shows I want.

well unless you have 2 people who continously use you comp to download NON-stop day in day out, only censing downloads for 50 minutes a day YES its that hard to believe, how can u download 23hours and 10minutes a day everyday you have to sleep somtime, and there isnt even that much material to download, you harddrive would fill up within the first month!!
Its way to unbelievable maybe if you have double the speed you have now it would be believeable but nope, its nearly impossible. You saying you always download at topspeed, this is unlogical and doesnt happen out of theory. [/b][/quote]
first of all: you are a noob
second of all: you are a noob at 56k modem
of course you can download/upload 24 hrs a day, who said you can't?
and why do i need 2 ppl to use my comp to download non-stop? that's just bs talking
and i dont have to be in front of my comp to download you noob
sure hdd fills up quick but if you read my previous posts i said my cd burner is busy!!!!

I dunno...if people share I could probably pull in a few GB's a day... DSL 1.5MBit down 128K up... most of the time people don't share so it just uploads and doesn't download...but every now and then something comes in. So I pile up decent queues of downloads and ignore it.

whats the du meter you guys are talking about and where can i get a copy??
for starters just search it in google and secon, GO HERE (http://www.dumeter.com) and download it, it is a handy little program, that tells you ur download speeds and can do all sorts of things with information such as amount down/up - loaded, projections alerts... etc. a very nice program that uses almost no system resources.
so anyway i used to download a cds worth a day but now it is 3g a month + whatever i can get at 28kb modem speeds caus broadband in australia sucks
last year i managed to download 180gig or so
this year thanks to caps that will be cut to 40gig... quite pathetic, the service i initially joined for has been changed severley and because of shitty tricks employed by the telco, ie. bundling phone, mobile and cable together and getting cheaper rates, this causes my dad to refuse to change providers.....
you americans are so god damn lucky. <_<
:D I istalled a few minutes ago that Du meter, well nice it gives a good vieuw over wat is happening and gives also the chance to reduce or limit certain levels so that there stays some room for other users ( daughter) in this home network. Sharing 37130 files gives ofcourse some uploadstress and on the download side it isn't very silence too. :) :) Another 9000 to go

with 1.5mbit the best i can get is 50-100k/sec
sad right?
plus i only average 4-5gb a day to me thats very slow...
5gb x 30 = 150gb per month and still ISP like comcast complains/disconnect service for those that goes over 30gb a month.
WTH???
1gb a day imo is shit plus it not hard to accumulate 9gb/day just doing 100k/sec for 24hrs period... comcast blows, RR blows. bloodsucking corp are scums of the earth... EVIL and ABUSIVE
Can I say pwned???
