Wmp 9.0 - Big Brother Watching?

I am considering downloading WMP 9. But I have heard that Microsoft has it set up to report what files you are using. I am not keen on this.

What is your recommendation? Is this something that can be turned off? or should I just keep wmp 8?

:lol: If you have XP this site (http://www.xp-antispy.de/index.html) can tell you which progs "phone home" and what you can do about it. Personally i should'nt use WMP at all...

I mostly use wmp for videos. I have been able to find and add the Codecs as needed. What is your preference for viewing videos?

You can probably disable that in the options dialog. All of the bad options are enabled by default, of course, so you have to go through every option and uncheck 'em all...

I use zoom player, but what about for music? I have a lot of mp3s and I really like the library in WMP - easy to use and reasonably fast loading. I also like the new auto-playlists.

I tried musicmatch jukebox and ditched it after a day. Tried RealOne Player but didn't like it that much and I generally don't like Real stuff anyway as they always seem to try and run stuff in the background. Winamp doesn't seem to be that good at managing lots of files although I haven't tried it again in a long while.

Its not that big of a deal. If you watch movies, there really is no way of telling what files you actuall own. Like the loop hole to copy your software, only for backups. Besides, if something does happen, there is no physical proof to take you to jail. I'm not really worried about it. Besides, you all are way to paraniod!

Not worried about jail! :D But I know a lot of people don't use WMP and was wondering what they use instead.

wmp9 is fine, just edit your prefs to your likes & if u have a firewall deny wmp9 any access to the net.

I use winamp 3 for both movies and music...

ever since ver 6.something, WMP has occupied to much of the screen for my likeing.

WMP9 is the 1st step from microsoft to use DRM, you really won't that happen.
