1. Create DOS partition or Logical DOS Drive
2. Set active partition
3. Delete partition or Logical DOS Drive
4. Display partition information
5. Change current fixed disk drive
I choose 1.
Got to the point where it said "Warning all data on drive "C" will be lost!
do you want to proceed?
chose Yes (y)
then asked to enter the volumn label.
I hit enter.
I then bet a bad command notice.
Is there a better way to go about this?
I was told with compaq I possible needed to go through something called the "non BIOS mode"
Do I not understand? Seems like it should be simple.
Win 98 2nd editon

At the dos prompt type:
c:\windows\fdisk enter
..............................................
Blah Blah Blah
Do you wish to enable large disk support? [Y] enter
..............................................
Blah Blah Blah
4.Display particion information
Enter Choice: [4] enter
...............................................
Partition Status Type Volume Label Mbytes Blah Blah Blah
C: 1 Blah Blah
Esc to continue
That's what you need to enter instead of just hitting enter next time :D

Well, you can't create a partition if the partition(s) already exists or there is no more available free space to partition. You'll have to 1st delete the old partition(s) before you can create/change a new one. Option 4 & 5 will help you determind that. I don't recommend deleting then creating a new partition unless you need to create multiple drives, reduce the number of drives, or change the partition type (fat16, fat32, NTFS). If you just want to erase the HD, the format command will suffice.

I think it doesn't warn you when you make a partition [1], only when you delete it [3] So my directions were so you could delete it. Then you can make one.

Yep I deleted everything all right! Now I start in Dos and I get that beautiful color screen:
Main Menu:
System Setup
Fixed Disk Steup
Advanced System Set up
Boot options
Security
Power Management
Load ROM Default Values
Load Values from CMOS
Save Values to CMOS
Looked around at the options but I have not formated yet. Did you misdirect me? Did I goof? I'm going to traveler a live mike tech site and see what they think or respond again my friends. the link to traveler: http://traveler.digitalspace.com/cgi-bin/w...rtCurrent=space (http://traveler.digitalspace.com/cgi-bin/whoson.cgi?printHeaders=1&sortCurrent=space)
Hoping this can be resolved without hours of work. Just need to format and reinstall. Thanx will check back.
