I'm sure i do everything right when I make my VCDs, but they just won't play back on my DVD player. I have DEFINATELY played VCDs made by other people, but I can't get them working when I make them myself. For e.g, I downloaded an MPEG video clip for a song which was about 40mb and used nero to make a a VCD. I also tried SVCD and that didn't work either. I've tried some Buffy eps which were avi's, converted them to MPEG then burnt them, again didn't work. Just in case, my DVD player is a Sony DVP-NS300 and its chipped so it supposedly plays everything (i also noticed it can't play burnt CDs). I'm guessing I just can't play them but the fact i've played other VCDs i.e. not-so-legal latest release movies that friends have given me makes no sense. Anyway thanks for any help someone can give me :)

I've got a Sony myself and that would play VCD's or should I say those bought, but playing homeade vcd's was a no go, ended up buying another dvd player compatible with all, now I can play all my burned vcd's made.........may be your case as well!
Are the ones your friend let you use made or actual pressed VCD's?

I also have a Sony DVD player and I had the same problem, so checked out the compatibility here (http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers). I can play a VCD that I have created on almost any brand of CD-RW I've tried. Unfortunately, when I use a CD-R it does not work, no matter what kind I use. Pick up a couple of CD-RW's and give them a shot, if it works, then you know what kind to try in the future.
Hope this helps a little.

Cool I found my DVD player, it says it can play VCD but only on CD-RW, also I think the ones I played were kinda more proffesional ones, maybe they were pressed ones. Ill try making one on a CD-RW I've already got a few, thanks for your both of you for your help :)

Yay I copied a few MPEG video clips onto a CD-RW and it played. The thing is I had to close the disc (it didn't work while it was open), and they're pretty expensive to buy. I'm gonna look around a bit more to see what types od CD-Rs could possibly work then..but its great that it's worked, thanks again for your help :)

Just burn them onto a cd-r as a backup if you don't want the converted version on your hard drive. I have about 70 vcd's on disc that I have downloaded from the network and I have the same problem with my dvd player. Only plays ones on cd-rw. I keep 10 cd-rw's for movies and I just write them over after I copy one of the backups to my hard drive again. Simple, doesn't take that long. There are places to get cheap cd-rw's online, if you buythem in bulk. I remember a while back getting 100 cd-rw 80 min. 700mb for about $46.00. That's a decent price. Do a search for a sale on them.
