I downloaded 8 mile (716,446) and want to convert it to vcd but when I decompress the audio with vertualdub the audio is out of sinc and if I then try to convert it to vcd with TGMPenc it gives an error about initializing acm, any ideas?

Did you check out http://www.vcdhelp.com/ (http://www.vcdhelp.com/)?

Two in the same boat, found myself there as well, but the audio/video get out of sync about 5 minutes into the movie, tried Virtualdub, avifix to try an re-align the sync but no go to this point. If anyone gets this sync'd please post in Verifieds, save many of us from having to do just this.........

Dark Sushi thanks for the great flicks, sync'd or not :D

use decompress.exe wich comes with AVI2VCD (http://www.mnsi.net/~jschlic1/)
and then encode it  :D
this will fix it ;)

What is the current file type that you are currently converting to MPEG VCD?

If it's something like AVI, then use Nero Burning ROM http://www.nero.com (free trial) and select 'VCD' option. Before it burns to CD, it automatically converts the foreign file type into a (S)VCD compatible format.

I think it's the same with other file types such as MOV. Alternativily (I don't know if this works, backup first!) just rename 8mile.xxx to 8mile.mpg. If that doesn't appear it's not selected (Tools>Folder Options)

Sorry I am not very specific.

I've just had the same problem. I'm now trying encoding with VBR without seperating audio? Will let you know if it works.

Worked fine for me when I converted this movie. Used Goldwave to extract the audio and tmpgenc to convert both streams to vcd. Will copy back onto hard drive and post in verifieds as soon as i get it back from friend.

Just out of curiosity has anyone else got this file, 8 mile (716,446), it's in the verifieds at fastrack , cos I've just noticed that mine goes tits up 58 mins into the film for a few secs then goes back to normal but the time bar skips 1 minute. I think this is causing the prob. I was going to dl this file again but I don't know if the error is on the file I dl'd or if it was my dl that got corrupted.

Ok I just used avi2vcd to decompress the audio then convert to vcd. I played the new mpeg file with media player and zoom player and all I get is a series of still frames (key frames I think) that are upside down.
 WTF?
