View Full Version : Ban Non-sharers

The reason why people like me worry about that is..., 'WE' not 'THEY' are the people who make/break these types of programs. It's more evident in the smaller/newly formed sharing apps., like Xolox. [don't go on a tangent on Xolox now I mentioned one program] If I had the option, idiots who did not share would be banned from taking any of my files. It's just that simple; if they're not contributing, find my foot. There should be an option to ban for several reasons (security, being another). If you're gonna tell me that security isn't an issue, nevermind. Speaking from experience, it is.
Thank you for responding to my previous message.

Please tell me more about the security issue. Maybe I SHOULD be concerned. If people HAD to share to use Kazaa, wouldnt the people who are not sharing just share useless files and crap so they could download. Where would you draw the line? I definately dont share everything I download but feel good about what I am sharing.

How about an "exclude this guy" option in the right click menu of the upload section ?
Then we could all choose who we wish to exclude, whatever our own personal reasons.

I would love that type of option., however you would have to be careful, first we would need to get rid of the BUG that makes people think you are not sharing when you actually are, I mean you have to sometimes "find more form user" 2 or 3 times before it actually does it, so if someone were to simply check once and then ban you that would be bad, however something along those lines would be wonderful. Furthermore along the lines of where to draw the line, I say 50 files minimum totaling at least 2 Gigs, and if someone can’t meet that then so sorry (go buy another hard drive). I would be in trouble as it is right now I have so many full length movies shared that I have had to hover right around 47 to 50 files to stop from overloading my own hard drive and mine is huge, but most of my moves are 700 Mb's plus and if 50 files was min I would just go back to sharing some music and stop sharing as many movies. Or if the file number were allowed to be less when the Gb's were more would be cool, I mean if I am sharing 50 plus gigabytes of movies then the file count need not be so high. I do not have all the answers and think that any solution we come up with will have its drawbacks and eventually be worked around by those truly in the stealing files field. I mean, there are people currently downloading from us all who think we are stupid and there for the taking. I mean they are like pick pockets, only if they are caught they do not go to jail they just simply find someone else to steal from. It used to drive me insane, however now I simply keep track of the offending individuals and I am working on ways to hurt there endeavors. IF and when I come up with a manner in which to repay them for there acts I will share it with those who are worthy of the knowledge and would appreciate those who may have or will come up with something on their own to do the same.

What really bugs me are those that have a bandwidth of 1. Ok, they share but no use downloading from them.
What I really don't like is that they do to others what they wouldn't accept for themselves, those same guy download at hight rates from others.
I they read me, they'll probably say "tough luck, it's my choice" but how does one explain to them that in the long run it also plays against them?
The more people share a file, the faster the download, the faster the turn around, the faster one can move on to the next download....

And the faster the file is spread so there are more sources..
Trouble with that theory is...THEY already have the file, so they dont give a monkeys how many others have it or how quick the upload speed is.

I don't share...anymore. not because i want to, but because I can't. I live at school (one which has chosen to block file-sharing ports recently) and have to tunnel to use kazaa etc. Tunnelling eats up memory, and If i shared, my computer would constantly crash. Until my school started doing this however, I shared 15 gigs of "good" (meaning I chose to keep them) files. Don't be so quick to judge non-sharers, the fault may not be their own.

If you can't share, forever what reason, you shoul seriously think of getting your files elswhere. p2p means up and down. There are a lot of good websites where you can download from. There are plenty mp3 or Wares (the z won't work well there @#$%^%$&*) sites that are open for DOWNLOADING. p2p is there for sharing. Sorry for that, but its just the way i see it.

Grr, leeches...
People who don't share on file-sharing programs, IT'S KAZAA, A FILE-SHARING PROGRAM, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SHARE FILES!!!
I share 6 Gigs of stuff of movies, software, and music!
Why don't people share files?
It makes complete sense, as some posted earlier, if you share, you get more people to download stuff from you, the more people have to share, the more people can get, meaning faster downloads!
Anyways, I just like to rant, I've seen too many times on KaZaA with this new participation level thingy, I see someone with a level 0, I check if they share files, if they don't I ask if they do, if they swear and say "you can't make me!", I just say "you should share, this is a file-sharing program for christs sake!!!" then cancel the file he's trying to download, and move it out of the shared folder!
It works, and they get really pissed at me!

I don't mind freeloaders. After all, that's what the Participation level's for. What I don't like is over cheaters. OK, it's one thing for someone with a slow connection and/or unpopular files to cheat up to, say 100, to get a chance of downloading stuff, but I hate people who share 2/3 files then come along with a rating of 1000. So I cancel them & stop sharing the file.
