In addition another one is MR. C's
http://www.mrcs.net/
It also has a forum, and sources out invavluable help to oldtimers as well as newbies.
does not mind dumb questions, only way to learn really.
also provided is when you have a response on your questions, the forum emails you a hotlink direct to the response.
In addition he gives advice on pros and cons of different things parts etc. etc. as well.
Really a good site.

buy a motherboard with less integrated stuff as possible
use quality stuff and lot of memory
products are your own choice, but i recommend
Asus - Motherboard and Videocard
Creative soundcard
IBM Harddisk(s)
Kingston memory
Plextor cd/rw
Sony DRU-500A dvd re/writer

My advice:
- choose your motherboard carefully, it's the mots important piece of hardware you're going to buy
- get yourself enough fans and coolers, especially if you're going to build a monster
- don't be too stingy when buying video-card and memory, lots of memory
Good luck.

I was thinking of building something like
just for faster gaming(my current pc sucks:( )
pentium 4 3.06 ghz(I gotta have hyper threading  )
40 gig drive(already have it)
cdrw(already have it)
512 megs of ram
g force 4 ti 4200-4600
and I'm looking for a nice case that is not too expensive :D
think it can be done for under $1000?

If your in UK you can try out Scan (http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/) sometimes have good deals on hardware.
There's a Sony 42" Plasma Screen for £2,899.00 (£3,406.33 inc. VAT) if anyone has the cash. Buy me one if you do. :P
Also this site is quite good Tom's Hardware Guide (http://www.tomshardware.com/)
Happy buying then building. :D

You stated that "I'm looking for a nice case that is not too expensive". Don't skimp on the power supply. A good one leads to having a very stable system.

No probaly not Master YodaX.............sorry but if you have to use a Pentium 4
3.0ghz chip your talking about 600.00(U.S. dollars) right off the bat.
Then you said you want a Geo force 4 TI 4200-4600. and 512MB of ram and a nice case(which you dont want to skimp on along with power supply about 450 wts) ..........Over budget!!!!
Try going with and AMD Athlon XP 2000-2800 cpu chip instead.
and why do you gotta have hyper threading?
Dont let Intell fool you with there marketing.
Like the bullshit about hyperthreading being like two processers at once.
Right now AMD Athlon XP 2800 beats Pentium 4 3.0 ghz in most areas in
all reliable benchmarks.(when programs are updated to use the hyper threading things will change) but it will be awhile and AMD is cheaper and all you will need for a long time.
Hope this has helped.
Peace brotherdoobie

If you are going to build a pentium then I would wait until the Prescot line comes out, some time in Q2. That way you will still have the option to upgrade later if you want. From what I have read it is going to be a real powerhouse including a 800Mhz FSB, 1mb L2 cache, and hyperthreading. The prescot is going to use a completly different pin then the norwood so if you buy a norwood now you are pretty much stuck in the 3gig range.

I was looking for a 3.06ghz processor on ebay earlier. Priced around AUS$1250 or about US$600, so I have decided to look elsewhere.

I am going to wait till the next intel processor(anybody know how fast it will be? maybe 3.3ghz?)so that I wont have to pay $600  I will not skimp on the power supply or the DDR ;) ram.
thanks for all the help :D
