Ok here is the situation. I have a ATI Radeon 9700 pro video card with TV out. I used to be able to watch movies that I downloaded on my TV. About a week ago it wouldn't work anymore  When I start the movie it still comes up on the computer but there is just a purple box inside the media player on the TV. I have all of the current codecs and I have tried it with both direct x 9 and 8 with no luck. I have also tried it with zoomplayer, & windows media player 8 and 9. I have tried different resolutions and hertz. Anyone have any suggestions before I send the card back? It really sucks trying to watch The two towers on a 19 in monitor instead of a 36 in TV!

I have a Matrox dual head card so I can't tell you exactly what to do bet here's what I would do.
Go to Radeon's web site & find the latest version of drivers & software for your card. I would also check out support for faq's or troubleshooting for your card.
Look there for info on deleting/uninstalling your present drivers & software and do that & install the new drivers & software. Go to properties, set up your main monitor & make your correct settings for your setup. Make the correct settings for your TV. If you have an option for scaling, I'd try "yes".
If it still does not work I would try looking around and trying settings for your dual head. Mine allows me to choose between "DVD Max" that sends the video out to TV or "Dual Head Clone" thats clones my display to the TV. I would experiment with that kind of stuff. I would also try the Divx Player from divx.com. If still no luck I would start thinking about taking it back. If I were a betting man and your'e sure it's not a codec problem, I'd bet on the fresh install of your drivers & software.

I have tried every set of drivers that ATI has put out for my card. I am currently using the first they put out since that is what I originally got to show a movie. I have tried uninstalling and installing drivers for each about 5 times just to be sure. I have the option of using clone mode, which is what I use, or using it as an extended desktop. I have been through ATI's FAQ several times and it is useless. I would call them but they only give 30 free days of phone support before you have to pay for, I guess that is a Canadian company for you. (No offense meant to anyone who lives in Canada, just ATI.) I have tried three different installs of the new DIVX player(POS) and the Divx software bundle. I left it on there long enough to try but deleted the player after. I have installed the current Nimo pack (full and lite) three times with no success. The thing that gets me is that it shows on my computer just not on my TV. I really don't think it is a bad card because it will show everything but the movie. It will even show the media player just with a purlple screen where the movie should be playing.

Man, that sux u are having these problems. Thats strange, most people have the problems with the Nimo (full) pack and the Divx bundle fixes everything. I even have the Divx player as my default avi player. Im thinking you might try checking out which codecs the movies need with Gspot on the download page and/or Codec Finder (http://oa.thenoobies.com/codecindex.htm) and see if they are still installed. If not, you know where to look next. Good Luck

It plays on the computer-Not a codec problem. Just not on the TV. Oh well, I am about to format my hd and start over. If that doesn't fix it then my computer is going to have a little accident!! <_< Do you have problems with your Divx player? I tried it but always had problems with it, trying to fastforward using the bar always made it lock up. Thanks for the advice.

Yes, I have that problem on some movies but not often and after I end task, I can start it over or switch to a different player. I like windows media player but I dont trust microsoft. It can run scripts and even though people have said "not with avi's", if they cant do it now, I bet they will find out a way to. Divx player is stand-alone and dosen't do that kind of stuff (of course I have no proof of that).
For me, if Divx player won't play it, I usually lock down the internet with zonealarm and play it with WMP and when Im done I reboot. Why? I don't know. 4 some reason it makes sense to me. No one ever told me to do that and I definately don't know anything about programming. Okay, Im rambleing. I hope you get it working.

I use zoomplayer as my default. When I said media player I just meant what I use to play my movies. There is to much crap that goes along with Microsoft Media Player.
