Okay, I'm new to this whole networking thing. Let's say I have two computers near each other. I wanna set them up so I can play Multiplayer games over a LAN with both computers, without having to be on the internet. What cable or wire do I need to connect the two PC's, and how do I get them set up???
Like I said, I'm new to this whole networking thing.

OK here is what you need. Two NIC network card s10/100mbit. I prefer 3coms but there are many other good ones. If you have only two PC's that you want to network you will need a crossover cable instead of the regular cable that is used for internet sharing. http://www.cat-5-cable-company.com/index.s...shtml?source=OV (http://www.cat-5-cable-company.com/index.shtml?source=OV) I'm not recommending you buy from here but this will show you what to look for. CAT-5 is good. Then all you have to do is install the NIC cards and run the Cat-5 cables and windows should do the rest. Run home networking setup. I might be leaving out some details here so if you have any problems just drop me a line. Hope this helps.

And if thats it, both PC's need one, right?
EDIT: Oh yea, what's the difference between a regular cable and a crossover cable??

OK, one of your PCs has a network card. You need to get another one, preferably the same kind.
A crossover cable is a special cable meant to connect two network cards. The connections are reversed compared to a regular cable. It's only good for two computers.
If you think you're ever going to want to connect more than two machines, you'll need a hub. You might get a laptop some day, for instance. Then you need to get the regular network cables. Use Cat 5 cables.
You'll certainly need a hub, or preferably a router, if you want to connect the computers to the Internet with cable or DSL.

Exactly what he said. I now have a home network through a Siemens 4-port Router. It serves for internet and regular networking. It is alot harder to set up but I like this type of network better as you an add more PC's and network them easier once everything is in place. If you have any more questions about setting up the rest of your stuff just ask, I'll get back to you sooner or later Ill try to. :)
