I think there was a installation guide with the HD i bought a while ago, but Maxtor has those on their site also like this (http://www.maxtor.com/en/documentation/installation_guides/ata_installation_guide.pdf) one. Maybe, after deciding which brand you want to buy, you can visit their site.

Have you ever installed a cdrw or dvd drive?
It's pretty much the same
No it's not too hard just follow the intructions closely there's nothing too technical to do.
(at least in xp :P )

I just bought a 60 gig for $65. I would say anything around a dollar a gig is a good price. What do you mean when you say are they hard to fit?

I't surely not hard.

You have to put in four screws and plug in the IDE cable.
But dont forget to set the jumper either as master or slave, I would recommend using it as master because it will be faster than your old one.

Then you need to formate the disk.

When I bought a Barracuda V a few weeks ago there was an installation guide with it. :)

It is easier to jumper both hard drives to cable select, that way if something happens to your master you don't have to worry about changing jumpers on your slave. Here is a walkthrough if you need it.

One thing that I would suggest is to make a partition for your files that you are downloading. They are usually highly fragmented and can really slow down your computer.
